Adventure Whale Watching San Diego Tours

"Fabulous! I’ve done tours with other companies with bigger boats before, but never gotten nearly this close - to multiple different animals. We followed a gray whale for awhile, seeing him come up from dives 5 or 6 times - so cool! Then we encountered a fairly large pod of white sided dolphins, who played with our boat for a long time! These pictures are taken with an older phone with no fancy camera features. We also were able to lean over the front of the boat to watch them swimming and jumping right with us. It was just unbelievable! Our guide was super knowledgeable, friendly, and told us about other times of year that different whales are more active. I was hesitant initially to pay this much for a tour when they cost less on a bigger boat, but after experiencing these close encounters I want to come back and bring our kids! 100% recommend!!"

"What a day! Our salty but enthusiastic and compassionate captain took us on an adventure of a lifetime. We arrived at the tail end of the atmospheric river which left most of San Diego in shambles as so many areas were flooded. We came with low expectations because it had been storming so much, and to our surprise, with the relationships our captain had built he got the insider scoop as to where one juvenile grey whale was. It was my first time to ever see a whale, and it instantly brought me to tears. It was spectacular. We followed the whale, learning about their travel and eating patterns. We were following alongside the whale next to this incredible wooden sailboat, who I’m assuming was a trusted friend of our captain. I am looking forward to coming back when it’s not storming in sunny San Diego to see our captain and the marine life again. What an amazing crew. He checked on us several times throughout the ride as the water was high and a little spicy. I thought he showed a tremendous amount of compassion and passion about his job as captain. 100% recommend!"

"Went out with Captain Rick on a great adventure today. Grey whales, dolphins and a sea lions. The boat (RIB) is amazing and you get to be so close to the wildlife. Captain Rick is extremely knowledgeable about whales and his experience in finding them is evident. We got to see 3 different whales today, 2 juveniles and one adult. It was an absolute amazing experience and so much better than the bigger boats! Highly recommend if you are thinking about a tour, use them, you will not be disappointed. Can't wait to come back and book another trip to see the Blue Whales! Until next time!"

"I’m so glad I chose Adventure Whale Watching! Captain Rick was knowledgeable and friendly and he made sure to do his best to find us something cool to see—and he came through!! We followed a pair of gray whales for about 40 min as they showed us their flukes before deep diving and then eventually resurfacing. The boat ride itself was also a treat and a beautiful way to experience San Diego. Highly recommend!"

"We had an amazing experience with Capt. Rick. He was friendly, professional, informative, handled the boat well and was able to show us humpback whales, a HUGE pod of common dolphins and, of course, some California Sea Lions. Would 100% recommend and would definitely go again! Capt. Rick knows his stuff for sure! WELL worth the price of the trip! Loved every minute of it! We’re pretty used to seeing dolphins in Texas, but the experience we had today was stellar and a real treat! Leaning over the bow watching hundreds of dolphins as they raced in front of the boat was definitely the coolest! They were almost close enough to touch. Even better than swimming with them in Mexico in my opinion!"
