"The Whiskey House is a dream for a whiskey & bourbon connoisseurs and drinkers alike. Nestled in the edge of The Gaslamp downtown quarter, this spot looks unassuming front the outside, but once you enter you are surrounded with bottles of domestic, import and rare bottles of whiskey & bourbon that span wall to wall throughout. They hold the Guinness World Record for having the most variety of whiskey commercially available: 2467! There are plenty of tables and a extra long bar, but seats can fill up quite quickly come happy hour - daily. Aside from their extensive menu of spirits to choose from, their food menu is equally large. I was surprised that a whiskey house had so much food option on the menu. The atmosphere is that of a whiskey and cigar lounge, dimly lit and relaxing. You can easily immerse yourself in there with all their specialty cocktails and vast selection of whiskey & bourbon. The mixed clientele is a nice change from the usual crowds of the Gaslamp quarter. I usually go for happy hour, to be able to easily get a bar seat and to avoid the crowds of the Gaslamp. Happy Hour specialty cocktails are just $6 and there are beer & wine options as well. There's a selection of Happy Hour Bites from Vietnamese Wings for $1 each to Scotch Eggs for $6 to a pork chop for $12. From my visits here, I've had the TWH burger - always a safe option anywhere. I've also had the NY Strip Steak, which is pretty good as well. The Vietnamese Wings were a bit uneventful and disappointing, and the Sausage on a Roll was a bit salty & overcooked. Service is good and attentive for the most part, depending who's behind the bar. Service in the main restaurant/lounge area is consistently good from what I've seen. The Whiskey House is definitely worth a visit if that is your spirit of choice."
"They’ll serve the higher paying customers before u. We went on our last night in San Diego, had a burnt burger that I ordered medium, wife’s pork chops were dry, Mac and cheese were ok and fries were very hard. Was very surprised that the waiters had zero knowledge of anything, was surprised a wellers was like $40-90 but buffalo trace was $12 for both their kinds. The drink menu is insane but the way it’s all priced is just weird. Some shots cost the whole price of a bottle and more. The thing that made me upset the most was that I ordered a buffalo trace white and a group sat after I ordered next to us and ordered 2 $150 taste of Japan flights. I waited and waited and never got my drink, but here came my waiter with 10 drinks and said they were having a hard time finding the buffalo trace, but they could find the 10 different Japanese whiskies? Overall, terrible experience, if u want whiskey go there, but I spent $240 and I also left a $45 tip for 4 meals 2 apps and 6 drinks to leave upset, don’t go there for the food at all. If u wanna drink whiskey, come here, but the food was just terrible, none of us felt it was worth the price for the food"
"Just walking in to see the bottles on the shelf is impressive. Once they pull out the "bible" you know you're in for a good time. They were out of several of the more obscure whiskeys we tried to order, but the staff was great about it and had alternatives to suggest. The most fun was watching them hunt down bottles. Overall a great place."
"We sat at the bar & where pleasantly surprised by there 4-7pm Happy Hour & Drinks specials. We even got shirts. We had the sirloin & Mac, cheese, few other sides & topped with a Awesome Old fashion & Martini from Christine. Great atmosphere & out going staff"
"I have had better steak from Denny's & Norms. I ordered it medium rare & it was definitely nowhere near it. Not to mention, it lacked flavor that I had to use the ketchup to give it flavor...... yes, I used ketchup to make it better. If that wasn't bad, our waiter only came by rarely & one of the plates of food was delivered when we were leaving(they said they would comp the meal). The only good thing was the whiskey drinks...."
