"After many years of renting on VRBO and dating online, I find them to be very similar. You read profiles that are basically truthful, descriptions that exaggerate the truth, ones that leave out important details, and ones that have outright lies. This property’s description (Pacific Grove, CA) has all of those. I’m usually pretty good at sensing red flags, but I failed miserably in this case. Yes it’s in a convenient location and is one block back from the beach (which is beautiful). The property has a partial view of the ocean from the second floor, but at least 7 power lines (some of them very thick) cross in front. Interestingly, there’s no picture of that. The house is located on a crowded, run-down alleyway (no pictures of that) with angry neighbors ready to pounce on the smallest transgression. Then there’s the parking—or lack of it. I got at least 4 texts and emails from the management company before I arrived telling me to park in the driveway next to the house (no picture of that). When I arrived, I saw a spot that could barely fit a Mini Cooper, and if it could fit, you wouldn’t be able to open its doors because of the retaining wall. I stupidly tried to get in the driveway with my SUV and wrecked my car. I then parked in front of the property as most others in the alley had done, but one of the residents reported me to police ($50 fine) even though many of the people in the alley had parked like me with no problem. I was then delegated to the beach road parking which can be very crowded with tourists and residents. The so-called “small patio” mentioned in the property description (no picture of that) I can only describe as a small prison yard with very high walls and fences, and an old, dirty metal table and chairs, nowhere you’d want to spend a relaxing time with a glass of wine looking at the no-view. So, there was no place on the property where you could sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. To be fair, the rental management company (with many properties in various cities) was responsive to problems. We had ants which they responded to twice but they still never went completely away. The garbage disposal didn’t work when we got there. They fixed it and then it failed again just before we left. I saw a lot of the reviews for this property were from many years ago, but today, some of the appliances are old and ready to be replaced. The main area needs to be repainted. I think owners of properties need to stay in their homes occasionally to see what they’re really like. Even then, I doubt they will change their less-than-accurate glowing descriptions and unsuspecting renters will continue to be duped."

"We stayed at Carmel Renaissance house in Carmel Valley. Great property, great location and fabulous service by luxevaca. Any question we had was promptly answered and the team was available any hour. Our second time staying here and would highly recommend!"

"Company did not respond when our whole group broke out in a rash from the hot tub water. We wanted to use the hot tub but they never responded when we asked them to do something with the water. They also delivered a sound machine when I heard a mouse scratching in the walls at night, so they were attentive one time. The view from the house in Carmel was very beautiful!"

"The company denies interacting with me so I figured they'd like me to elaborate on the 1-star review. My partner and I booked a rental through this company for a very special event. When we reached out with questions the LUXEVACA representatives mostly didn't respond. When they did answer their reading comprehension was low or they were dodging questions. A few months after paying the deposit but still over 6 months before the event, they started changing the details of the listing. We were concerned because they reduced the amenities provided. We repeatedly asked about this and they finally admitted the property had been sold and a portion of the property wasn't up to code and couldn't be rented out. We requested a refund, cancelling our reservation and they charged a cancellation fee. The customer service we received was like texting a distracted teenager. 1/10 would not recommend."
