Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park
About the Business
Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park is a museum and park located at 9980 Greenback Lane in Folsom, California, United States. This institution is a colorful part of Sacramento history, showcasing the commercial application of electricity in the late 19th century. Visitors can explore the vintage generators, control switchboard, and massive General Electric transformers that once powered the city of Sacramento. The park offers a glimpse into the past with its forebays and canal system that brought water from the dam to generate electricity. Summer and spring are warm, while fall and winter can be cool, so layered clothing is recommended. Special Event Permit applications should be submitted 45 days in advance, and Film Permits can be arranged through the California Film Commission. Volunteers are welcome to become docents and share the history of the Folsom Powerhouse with visitors. For more information on volunteering, please contact Nicole.Barden@parks.ca.gov or call (916) 985-4843 during open hours.

"Had a really cool guided tour! Learned allot from the volunteer guide. Recommend for a nice and interesting price of local history."
"I'm so glad we stumbled upon this really cool piece of California history! Tom, the volunteer, was so helpful and well informed to give so much more appreciation for what was there. And this led to an amazing view of the bridges and river"
"Awesome place to visit. The docents are really interested when visitors ask questions, it'll make their day! I talked with the docent that he showed us a secret: there are two huge beavers that made a nest at the bottom of the downspout of the turbines! They were as big as Labradors!"
"Loved the history of this place. Very fascinating to tour through the buildings. The equipment and apparatus in it are in good shape and great to look at. The gentleman who was there was very knowledgeable on the system. Very much worth a visit."
"Nice little museum close the the historic Folsom town center. Parking is 10$, but it's well worth the visit as it is an amazingly preserved hydro electric station that wasone of the first to generate electricity for Sacramento back in 1895. It was operational until the 50s and then became a preserved park hence all the original equipment from the era."
