"What an awesome hike! I went with a group of people ( 2 men, 2 women, and 2 kids). It took us about 2.5 hours to get to the potato chip rock. ***Couple of things to warn people of*** 1. The hike is going straight up 90% of the time. 2. Very limited parking 3. When you get to the top, there will be a line to take a photo on the potato chip rock. 4. No, there are no bathrooms 5. Get there before 9 am or get there after 2 pm for parking reasons. 6. Bring water and snacks 7. Where are loose-fitting clothes It is worth the hike. Stay safe."
"Road is easy to walk from the east side but steep. It takes about 1 hour to get to the rock and half an hour to the road. Many people are in line for photo. Get there early or before sunset."
"This is an awesome way to start or end your day with a beautiful, yet strenuous hike with a very steep incline reaching over 1,000ft in altitude. There are many viewpoints with huge rocks to climb so you can overlook the entire Ramona countryside. Make sure you bring at least 2 water bottles per person. I parked alongside the street and you will most likely see a line of other parked cars at the entrance to the trail. This place gets very hot in the summer and chilly during fall and winter. Also dog friendly for leashed pets. Once you get to the top of the mountain, you can go left to the tower, or straight which leads down towards the backside of the mountain. Follow the trail straight so you can get to the potato chip formation. Getting to the chip is a bit tedious and sketchy and requires a literal leap on courage from rock to another rock, with about a 20ft fall into a crevice, so make sure you get a good standpoint before jumping. It took about 2 hours to reach the peak until the parked car but I stopped to check out the view multiple times."
"A very good short-distance hiking option. You can park your car directly on the side of the highway. Please note that it is dark and you must pay attention to the road under your feet. I sprained my left foot and bruised my left knee. I hope everyone enjoys this trail."
"If you visit San Diego, check out this hike! The views at the top of Mt. Woodson alone are worth the effort, but Potato Chip Rock is super unique and a great photo opportunity. We took the back road up (the address is 16310 CA-67, Ramona, CA 92065).The landmark is the Cal Fire sign. There is a small Potato Chip Rock sign next to it, then enter that pathway following the arrows. The road was mostly paved but very steep more than I thought. Hard but doable, especially if you go slowly. There is very little shade on the trail, so wearing a hat and sunscreen is highly recommended. We started our hike at about 7:30AM on saturday. We reached the summit around 8:30 am. There were already few other groups taking pictures, so we had to wait a bit, but it wasn't too bad."
