"A must do - moderate to easy hike - we are locals and park out side the park and walk to the entrance then up the hill - not too bad - then your rewarded with a cool hike through the Torrey Pines and down the cliffs (not difficulty for an average able person) the walk up the beach North back to your car - We do it a few times a year - plan about 2-3 hours - worth it! You can also drive into the park - small fee and up the hill (small mountain) There's a cool education station at the top and easy flat paths to explore. A must do if your local or visiting!"
"Can I just say this is a great place to just let go think about life and meditate. Me and my close friend we climbed up the mountain take it down to the beach. I just love being in nature. Smelling the water from up top climbing down the mountain. It was so surreal. I recommend if you're looking for a nice hike to go on Torrey Pines is the one"
"The hike down to this spot is long and very hot during the summertime. The California sun is hotter than a lot of the country so you'll need to be extra careful when exposing skin especially during the summer months. Bring some water and some snacks and take advantage of the sparse shaded spots to relax as it feels 20Β° cooler in the shade. There are three ways to access flat rock: β------------------- 1. Park at Torrey Pines State Beach and travel south along the beach until you reach flat rock. 2. Park at the golf course and hike down flat rock trail.(Technically not allowed but they turn the blind eye to hundreds of people doing it every day) 3. Park at Blacks Beach or La Jolla Shores beach and follow the beach north all the way to flat rock. (There will be nude people) --------------------- Personally, I always park at the golf course and walk down through Torrey Pines on flat rock trail. It provides the best views and is the "full experience" IMO."
"If you are up for the hike, I'd recommend parking close the beach (not I'm the State Park where you pay). Walk up the road towards the South Parking lot and walk the trails. Leave flat Rock for the end as you can walk the beach back to your car."
"Started hiking with two little kids (7 & 5 years old) from parking lot at 11:30, since ranger did not allow us to drive up to visitor center parking. it took 30 mins to visitor center and hike down to beach trail. Took another 30 mins to flat rock. From 12:30 to 14:00 had lunch break and started to hike up to viewpoint. Get back to parking lot at 15:45. It was easy and kids friendly hiking."
