"We were very pleasantly surprised for an older looking budget priced motel. Checkin was fairly easy though different as we arrived at 5:30pm on a Friday but the office was closed. There was clear signage to text them and fortunately the text came back promptly, and they directed us to a lock box for the key which made it easy. Our room was clean, and appeared to have been partially updated. The beds were surprisingly comfortable and everything worked well, except for Wi-Fi which refused to connect for either my son or myself on multiple attempts at different times. (We had excellent 5G coverage which we used for data including our hotspot connected to the TV so we could watch Netflix since it also didn't connect to Wi-Fi, and that gave us the service we needed). We initially had difficulty figuring out how to get the heater to work, our text to the office was returned with a quick phone call and he walked me through the procedure, which later I found clearly explained on a laminated paper I had missed. Turned out to be directly next door to the restaurant I had chosen Jeremy's on theHill (wonderful place don't know whether I can put the name here but it's directly next door!). Pros: great location, price for us was very reasonable for a Friday night, bed unexpectedly comfortable, friendly responsive staff, heating/cooling, ease of check in and check out, Apple room and good amenities including unexpected coffee maker with pods. Other: Wifi not working (Although 5G cell service compensated), tub was clean but had old stains needs to either be changed or new enamel, new bathroom sink is cool looking with a nice faucet But two large as it lacks in a space to put your toiletry bag on either side other than using a high shelf over the toilet which is filled with towels. I consider it a great getaway and look forward to staying again when visiting Julian or the nearby for us just discovered Warner Springs a more remote truly beautiful area that includes a sailplane (gliderport) experience :-) I am reading Five Stars out of appreciation for the proprietors and their responsiveness as well as the unexpectedly decent quality, Even though I could have taken a star off for a few of the points that I mentioned (also note that the pool was empty although it would have been much too cool when we were there in March anyhow but it wasn't something that I noticed mentioned in advance). Of course this is compared to other budget priced motels (and there's very little in the area available in the first place). Apple tree was an unexpected treat We had a great night's sleep I'm being able to walk to a number of Julian's best and least touristy restaurants (Because this is in Julian station a couple miles from main Street) made it really special :-)"
"We stayed over a long weekend when the prices were obviously high (paid around $550 for two nights!). Totally not worth that money. The room was not very clean (a good amount of pet hair and dust throughout the floor) and the WiFi rarely worked (it works okay if you're using a laptop but my iPhone found it really hard to hold on to a signal). The entire place felt pretty dated. Some things were newer, like the bathroom sink faucet, and probably the a/c + heater, but most things were old. I was traveling with a little child and this wasn't an ideal hotel for a family with a child. Overall, would not recommend unless there are very few options remaining."
"Advice: Don't give out credit card number over the phone to host, you will end up with additional unexpected withdraws. Even after paying through a 3rd party. Host is hard to reach over the phone/ email. wow, it took a review to get an answer from the host! since you refuse to reply to my emails, please post here proof of damage and receipts/ how you determined the amount you charged."
"We traveled in for a family get together and wanted to stay in a quiet, peaceful location. This was perfect. Very nice, renovated rooms with everything we needed. The bed was super comfortable, which was a necessity after driving for 4 hours earlier in the day. The room had blackout curtains and we were able to sleep in. We traveled into Julian for a late breakfast and fell in love with the town. The apple/mountain berry pie is a must try. Thanks again. We will be back."
"Liked the location and ease of highway access. The room was clean upon arrival. I was surprised to find dents and paint missing on the wall next to the couch. I must say the free wifi and available streaming apps on the TV was great!! All I had to do was log into my account. The bakery across the street has delicious pastries. Next door is a wonderful restaurant, Jeremy's, which we very much enjoyed dining at each evening. The staff are very professional and extremely knowledgeable of their selections as well as curating beverage selections to compliment your courses."
