Reviews of Downtown Auto Body Services
"I went in a couple weeks ago to get a quote for body damage over my gas tank. From the get-go, as I attempted to concisely explain my needs as they pertained to his business, Tony interrupted me with his opinion that I should just file a claim on my insurance, and interrupted me again to move on when I tried to explain that I had already considered that option and decided against it for my own reasons. He verbally quoted me, but when I asked for a quote in writing, he told me to come back on a certain day he named a couple of days out, between certain hours. I did so, but when I arrived, he said he didn't have it ready, and made no apology for imposing on my time and energy in that way. He handed me his card with an email address on it, and instructed me to email the address on there and I'd get my quote via email. I did so, but a week went by with no reply. Ever heard of the sunken cost fallacy? I called again, he again made no apology, but kept saying he needed to get his nephew in to help him with the technology aspect of it. He then invited me to come in a 3rd time to pick up the quote, despite having sent me away twice already empty-handed, and a third and fourth time virtually. Finally, I called and asked what kind of phone he had, and said, I will walk you through how to email me this quote because I will not be coming in a third time. I googled exactly how to do it, and in doing so, began to get the sense that he was playing up his lack of technological ability to get a rise out of me. I think he saw a young woman, and immediately dismissed me after realizing I was someone who would not be pressured into billing my insurance for cosmetic damage, and resolved to make the process as difficult as possible in order to punish that. This is my suspicion, take it or leave it, but I am writing this in case any unassuming young woman is seeking a reputable body shop and comes across this review: engage at your own frustration. I would not do business with this man or even throw him as far as I trust him."
"I called to ask if they could look over my car following an accident. They contracted the job out to another shop without telling me, continually pushed out the repairs due to ordering the wrong parts, and not knowing when the mechanic they contracted was actually working on the car. When they scheduled a time for me to pickup the car, they were unable to show me most of the parts they'd replaced as they had agreed, they had crushed the rocker panels and pinch welds jacking up the car improperly, and the ODB2 bluetooth code reader I'd had in the car was missing. There were also bolts missing from the engine splash guard which I had them replace before leaving. They had not completed the alignment they were tasked to perform and I asked that that be refunded. They complained that they were then making no money after contracting out the job but complied so I could have this service performed elsewhere. I drove to a body shop to get an estimate for the damage they'd caused due to the improper jacking and less than 20 miles after receiving the car on my way home from this estimate, there was a loud bang and the engine began making a loud clunking noise. The repairs they had performed required them to drop the transmission and perform major work on the engine. I called them back and they advised I take the car to the fiat dealership and they would have their insurance sort out the repairs. I called this morning requesting their insurance information to pay for the repairs and missing property and was hung up on after being told that the car was not worth it and they would not be providing me with that contact information. I then received written documentation from the fiat dealership that they suggested I visit stating that the transmission was not properly mounted back in the car. This was repaired and Downtown Auto Body said that they would not pay for this unless I agreed they would not be held liable for the other damages they caused to the vehicle or the missing property."
"I got into a (more than a )fender-bender and needed several jobs done on the body, including repairing the front grill, new headlight and banging out the side panel as the passenger door wouldn't open. After taking the car to my regular mechanic, I learned that besides body work, the frame had been bent on the car and also needed to be adjusted. I dropped off the car at Downtown Auto Body and got an estimate right on the spot. I worked with Joey who was very easy to talk to about the car issues and what could be done. Over the next few days I waited very nervously while the car was being worked on. I have had a few bad experiences with mechanics over charging, throwing last minute charges in and overall taking advantage of me because I am a woman. When I called to check on things and re-confirm the pricing, Joey thoroughly explained everything that was being done to the car and why it was being done, as well as give me a solid confirmed estimate on the charges. He left me feeling very confident that they were doing a great job on all of the repairs on the car. I felt really relieved after talking to him on the phone and was happy he took the time to explain everything. The day I picked up the car I was really impressed with the great job that they had done. Though they needed to keep the car a few days longer on the frame rack due to the frame being bent so far, they managed to get it back on track, made all of the repairs and even cleaned up some scrapes on the bumper for no extra charge. Best thing was that the costs came to nearly $1000 cheaper than I and my boyfriend had initially assumed it would cost."
"Great place. Needed to get my car in to get a new tail light. The guy there was great at getting me an after market one and installed it right there... took maybe 20 minutes only. Also need to get some touch ups on my car. He said he can easily do it the same day for me. Great pricing and fast!"
"Was in a fender bender and took my car by for an estimate. Tony was able to quickly take a look at it an give me an estimate. I took it in a few weeks later (after Christmas vacation), and he did a fantastic job for a fantastic price! Knowing what I read from a previous review, I made sure to be proactive and call him for updates. For me the most important thing is a mechanic is trust and Tony has earned it, great guy, great work, great price. I hope I don't have any more fender benders, but if I do I'll be bringing my car here!"
