Monterey Tides 2600 Sand Dunes Drive, Monterey, CA 93940

"Great location, horrible rooms and management. Retrofit, and redesign is a mess, the nickle and dime you, stay away. Poor quality check and poor design for remodeled rooms. Booked a 2 night stay through Chase. Got one of the new remodeled rooms. Horrible design, stupid ledge to bang my head when standing up near the TV. Did my normal hotel room checks, and found the AC / heater didn't work, and the shower temp didn't get hot, only lukewarm, and no coffee maker. They want to charge you $5 more for a coffee after the $45 parking. Ridiculous! Informed the front desk I had no heat or hot water, had to call back multiple times to get maintenance over an hour later. Maintenance tried really hard to help, we checked cables and power and breakers, but the AC / heater itself was broken and it was an installer problem so his hands were tied and couldn't fix it. I imagine it was never quality checked. The hot water also could not be fixed. Called back the front desk again. Took another hour for us to get a different room after multiple calls. Heater finally worked, but hot water was still lukewarm. The last morning I heard a big BANG and I know it was the sound of their main water boiler restarting. Hot water was finally there, after 2 days of lukewarm showers."

"They are under renovation to become a Marriott. I ate at the restaurant on 4th floor overlooking the ocean. Great vibes and very friendly service. Good mussels appetizer portion with such great flavors!! The fireplace was such a good vibe to wind down and watch the sunset."

"My wife went here on 1/13. She rented 2 ocean front rooms, so she is writing this review. Called hotel direct to make reservations, they did not mention the Hotel was under massive renovation. I paid $344 a room it included a resort fee of $25. They waived the parking fee. I was told well we did lower the rate because of the renovation. No, you lowered the rate because it was January! The rooms smelled, not all the lights worked. The room was worn out!! We ate at the restaurant and paid $500 for dinner with a view of scaffolding! The wait staff was excellent the food was delicious. Went back for breakfast. Again, Great food and service. We rented 2 ocean front rooms, which I loved. Marriott has taken over and renovating. I am disappointed that the staff in reservations could not tell us it was under remodel."

"You stay here because of the location. The rooms are a little old but they are fine and the space is not bad. What you truly pay for is the location. Next to the ocean, you can't go wrong. The service by the front desk was great, and the maintenance people turned the fireplace on every night. Will definitely come back when visiting Monterrey again. The only reason I give them lower rating is because they were on construction, but they put you on the aide that isn't, so it didn't matter. Make sure you get an ocean view room. Also, I stairs don't matter, get second or third floor. It has a better view."

"The location is great but the hotel was dated and it going through renovations so next year it will be way better. Everyone was so nice and friendly at the hotel but like I said it was under construction so it wasn’t the best place to stay. Will be back once the renovations are complete and will get second floor or higher! The first floor it’s hard to see the waves from your room. The waves are loud so the first night throw me off because I normally like the sound of waves but I feel like these were more intense than normal"
