"The Stanford Theatre Foundation is dedicated to bringing back the authentic movie-going experience of Hollywood's Golden Age. Classic Hollywood directors never intended you to watch their pictures on a video screen in your living room (or while jogging). The magic of the movies depends on a larger-than-life image and the shared reactions of a large audience. The Stanford Theatre first opened in 1925, and it served for decades as Palo Alto's premier movie house. Most classic films played here on their initial Palo Alto engagements. The Stanford Theatre first opened in 1925, and it served for decades as Palo Alto's premier movie house. In 1987, after a blockbuster Fred Astaire Film Festival, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation bought the theatre and restored it to its original splendor. It is now owned and operated by the non-profit Stanford Theatre Foundation, presenting classic Hollywood films. The renovated Stanford Theatre quickly became America's most popular place to watch classic Hollywood movies. More people saw Casablanca here on its 50th anniversary in 1992 than anywhere else in America. Most classic films played here on their initial Palo Alto engagement. "I love it here so much, I wish Stanford Theatre were a food instead of a Spanish-style movie palace and I would eat only it all day. 7 bucks for two flicks. Give me a BREAK!!!!!!!!"
"Love, love, LOVE. If you are looking for an old-fashioned movie theater full of sentimental movies, this is THE place! It is stunning inside, and my favorite is to listen to the Wurlitzer Organ play between movies. Is it only $7 a movie, and you can get $1 popcorn! Nostalgic and great place to see classics."

"Fabulous going-back-in-time experience. Visited during the Hitchcock season and was struck by how good spirited the audience were, enthusiastically applauding as the titles came up. Beautiful venue, fantastic value."
