"Way over due, we finally made it in and I’m so happy that we did. The space itself is charming and eclectic; warm and familiar but with unexpected funk. Bri and Sarah were running things front of house and couldn’t have been more inviting as were the regulars. It’s a very chill vibe and cool hang. When it comes to the food—they try to make as much as they can in-house from scratch: the pickles, the dressings, the soup, hand cut fries, and more. While there are plenty of options on the menu to satisfy any hunger pang—since it was our first visit, we had to go with what we’ve heard about for so long—the Smashburger. It did not disappoint. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, messy, delicious. We also ordered up some chicken tenders. Never frozen. Made fresh. They were so good. We’ll definitely be back to try more of everything."
"Tried Layman on a whim. All I can say is what a fun place with great employees, beer, and food. We visited on a Thursday night. By the time we left we knew the owners, the bartender, and might have become fast friends with the other customers if there was time. A very welcoming atmosphere. Looking forward to going back."
"You want to be here! I want to be here!! What a great experience. The people behind the bar were the owners AND the brewer. They were so friendly and welcoming. They are doing what they love and you can taste it in the beer as well as the service. Every house beer we had here was delicious. My honey said this place is a credit to the institution.. it keeps the pub tradition while serving a bit of homebrewed love. We played shake of the day and also picked up some pull tabs... I won $1!!! You must have a shot of the Apple Pie! The Delicious (pepper infused vodka) made an Old Style a delicious treat that your mouth will remember. We didn't get to try The Old Fashioned concentrate, but I hear it's amazing with brandy (Wisconsin Style!)"
"I recently had the pleasure of stumbling upon a small corner bar in West Allis, WI, and let me tell you, it was an absolute delight. This unassuming bar, with its unpretentious ambiance, turned out to be a haven for burger enthusiasts like myself. From the moment we stepped inside, it was evident that we had discovered something special. We decided to try their renowned build-your-own burgers, and boy, were we blown away! We opted for the double patty, and when those burgers arrived at our table, our taste buds went into overdrive. Tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor, these were hands down the best burgers we've had in ages. It's clear that the chefs at this corner bar take great pride in their culinary skills, and their efforts are truly commendable. What made the dining experience even more satisfying were the homemade fries that accompanied our burgers. There was no doubt that these golden, crispy delights were made in-house, as the freshness and quality were unmistakable. To top it off, the seasoning on the fries was perfectly balanced, adding just the right amount of pizzazz. But the wonders didn't stop at food alone; this corner bar's dedication to craft continued with its impressive selection of self-brewed beers and an enticing array of local craft and domestic brews. Pouring their heart into every pint, this establishment truly understands the allure of a well-crafted libation. However, what truly sets this place apart is the warm and friendly atmosphere cultivated by the bartenders and owners. From the moment we walked in, they made us feel right at home. Their genuine hospitality and jovial demeanor added an extra layer of enjoyment to an already delightful dining experience. So, if you find yourself in West Allis and in need of a memorable burger experience, be sure to visit this small corner bar. Its phenomenal burgers are sure to satisfy your cravings, the homemade fries will leave you yearning for more, and their exceptional beers will quench your thirst. Plus, the friendly faces behind the bar will make you feel like family. Take my word for it - this hidden gem deserves your attention."
"Learned about this place only ten minutes before I decided to stop in, brewery-chaser that I am! Had two of their beers ("Hillbilly..." and "Barbarians..." and both were great!) Beers means eats, so I ordered up a grilled cheese sandwich with tots. Mmmm, good! Glad I stopped, I got a tour of the brewery while there. If you haven't been here yet, go now!"
