Reviews of Joy Furniture, Inc.
"Not a large store but good number of sofa selection. Friendly salesman. Delivery was earlier than when they initially promised. Price was reasonable."
"Thank Joy furniture we love our sectional. It was done exactly how we requested. They had it done within a week. The gentleman that help us was helpful and willing to add the changes we requested. Best prices in the area. Thank you Joy furniture!"
"I came in looking for a coffee table, a TV stand, and a couch with my boyfriend. With my help, he wrote his review which was a summary of our experience. I really wish I had received more help; I had taken pictures of my apartment and asked if he wanted to see them so that he could help pick out pieces, but he deflected and instead pointed to items in the catalogues. He did show me a few things on the floor, but most of my time here was spent looking at catalogues and asking the owner the price of each item. In the duration I was here, I was the person who was speaking/asking questions, yet every time prices were mentioned, the owner would look to my bf. Even after I had paid for my items, with my own credit card, the owner wanted to shake my bf’s hand and get his name. What the heck? I was certainly put off by his misogynistic gestures. As for the invoice, there were no numbers, only short descriptions as stated. The numbers were only written AFTER my bf had spoken up about it. I believe there was miscommunication due to a language barrier - my bf did not threaten to sue, he stated it was possible for the business to get sued the way they were handling transactions. I could have been screwed over by having some other item delivered because the invoice had no catalogue numbers. I’m not saying I think they would have done that, but it was possible. I’d have a better time browsing/purchasing items online. It would be more transparent because the prices are listed outright. The owner’s colleague/wife(?) - an older lady with short hair, was the one swore at us when we were about to leave, saying “gohjoh”. She must’ve thought it was safe to cuss at us in their native language because I told them I wasn’t Korean. She said the equivalent of “!@#$ off” before she smiled at me and said goodbye. I couldn’t believe it! I was very happy that my experience here unfolded the way it did; I don’t want my money going towards a person who swears at customers. We have no reason to lie about our experience. I’m sure any discrepancies are due to the language barrier. Based on my interaction, it’s unlikely they are capable of writing a response to these reviews themselves."
"I came in being transparent about how much money I wanted to spend, what I needed and the "president" of the business assisted me with what he claims is "20+ years of experience". First, the showroom is packed with a lot of things, but nothing was what I was looking for (a $500 white couch near 6-7 feet long). So he made me look through catalogues to find something, he did not show me things from my description, just guided me to the sections where they could be. His pricing on items made me feel like I was in a baazar. I'd ask the price of an item, he would go to his computer and verbally tell me a price, never showed me the cost on the computer screen. He had the same price $180 for all tv stands, from any catalogue or company and the stands on the floor; how is that possible? He also gave me random discounts based on my reactions or hesitations to the prices he stated. For example, he randomly dropped the price of two different couches that were a bit out of my budget by $50, only after I said it's a little expensive for me. When I asked if he could ship a couch into the business so I can test it since he didn't have any from that manufacturer in the showroom, he said no you can only get it shipped to your place. When I asked what the return policy is, he said "1 year warranty." I asked "does that mean if I don't like it, you will refund the price within a year?" He said "no only if it breaks, within a year I will fix it myself" and after probing more to get the actual return policy, I was told "once the box is opened, 40% fee" which seems ridiculous since I didn't get to even test the product or see it in person. How is that any different than purchasing a product online? The worst part was the transaction. It was dishonest and poorly documented. He did not write the catalogue numbers on the order invoice nor the receipt. Just a general description of the items (e.g. grey couch) in sloppy handwriting and the price. He also decided to throw in a "$30" discount at random. As well as "free delivery and assembly." When I asked them to be transparent about pricing they told me this is how they have been practicing for 20+ years. I asked for some transparency on what percentage cut they were taking and told them I felt that they were treating me unfairly. They continued to state take it or leave it. They assumed I was Korean but once they found out I wasn't they said started to curse by saying "goh joh" which means "f!@k off" All in all, the lack of transparency, baazar like bargaining, the lack of detail on the receipt and inability to explain the costs of the items made me not want to do business with them, and neither should you! They will take advantage of you and speak rudely to you if you ask "too many questions"."
"Great prices and great service! The owner was really accommodating to our needs and helped us out with what we needed. Came in here looking for a sectional that fit into my new apartment and he really helped us out. The prices were lower than the stores next door too!"
