"WARNING TO SHOPPERS: In November 2022, we purchased over $100 of Christmas lights. They were fine for the season. However after the year passed, we bring the same lights back out and discover they are not working. We replaced fuses, bulbs, but nothing would work. We reached out to the manufacturer of these lights and they said we could troubleshoot by installing the app. The app was unavailable on IOS and Android We then find out from the manufacturer support that these lights were discontinued long ago (a product that started being sold in 2017), and that the store shouldn't have even sold them to us in 2022. When I went to the store to see if we could get a refund, I was refused. When I asked about them selling products "As New" that were actually discontinued by the manufacturer, the store manager claimed "Well we wouldn't know that". So buyer beware, this store is selling discontinued products as new, so your ability to get manufacturer support will vary. --- EDIT in response to the manager: I'm aware of what the policies were. However this review is informing the community that you placed a "SALE" on products that were discontinued, without informing your customers they were discontinued. We would not have purchased the items if we would've known that the required app wouldn't be available and the manufacturer would refuse to support the product shortly after purchase --- Final Edit. The owner of this hardware store sent us a letter with an apology and a gift card for our troubles. He stated that sylvania shouldn't have provided them those lights as they were indeed, old, which I understand. It's not an easy position for a retailer to be in. The part that I is worth mentioning is that he stated THERE IS A DIFFERENT RETURN POLICY ON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS. The lights were indeed eligible for return and the gift card made up the difference of what we couldn't recoup in cost. I consider my issue with this Ace Hardware resolved but will continue to shop carefully."
"As much as I want to support a local business, they've lost me as a customer. After purchasing over $100 in (apparently) discontinued/obsolete Christmas lights last year, I've been on a runaround with Sylvania, the local store, and then Ace Corporate to try to find a reasonable resolution. Sylvania was in disbelief that the store even had these lights on-hand and told us to reach out to the local store. The local store management pointed towards their "great" 90-day return policy (which really shouldn't be relevant to something you use once a year...) and told us to reach out to corporate if we wanted to take it further. After reaching out to corporate, we were told we can only work with the local store since they are independently run. I can see their perspective on not honoring a return a year later (even though we still have all boxes and the receipt), if it were not for the light sets being 5 years old at the time of purchase. They also claim that they were discounted when we purchased them, but that's irrelevant - they should have been sold at some sort of clearance/obsolete price - not something that indicated it was just a normal sale. Do your research before buying items - especially holiday decor - from Ace if it's something you'll want to use year after year. As you can see from their reply to this review, they are unwilling to admit that they sold discontinued products at a SALE price - not reflecting the fact that they were a discontinued (and essentially garbage) item. 90 days doesn't cover the time period in which you would take out Christmas lights for the following year to find out they are all trash."
"I love this store. Every time I come into this Ace Hardware, I get an answer to my question. If they do not have the fix I need, they will refer me to a place that does. This time I came in looking for a solution to adding antifreeze to my Park Model RV. Because it does not have a water pump, you have to hand pump the antifreeze in the water lines. And that job is a pain. So I met Dave who created a way to use an air compressor to add the antifreeze. Dave, along with a big assist from Logan, designed the system and found all the parts I needed. This system worked just as they said it would, making this job everso much easier. Kudos, Dave and Logan, for a job well done!"
"This is one of the local "Elliot" Ace Hardware stores. To me the Elliot stores have always been the best. They have some of the largest selections of hardware and other home goods. A paint counter with experienced people. The staff are friendly and seem to genuinely want to help. The people at the Service Counter are some of the most knowledgeable about hardware and tricky issues."
"Mark M from Electrical is a life saver! He changed the battery in my car key fob and saved me time and money so I didn’t have to go to the dealership! He is an absolute asset to Ace Hardware, and I will definitely shop here again because of his excellent customer service. Thank you again Mark M., you made my day!"
