"Volume One magazine was a pretty good local magazine when it first came out, and for maybe the first couple of years it was out. Now it's filled mostly with advertisements and fluff pieces for any kind of stories, which are very few. I keep picking up an issue, sometimes, hoping that it has gotten better, only to see that it's been a waste of my time to thumb through it. Won't someone in this town actually put out a magazine that is worth reading? The only thing this magazine is good for, is to line a bird cage."

"There was a big laugh at the restaurant as our family was trying to coordinate on where we were headed next. THE Local store. Such a clever name! This place has it all! For the travelers that are looking for apparel or a knickknack with "Eau Claire" or "Wisconsin" on them - they've got it. If you're looking for something less traditional - art or a bowl created by a local - they're got it. The store includes so, so many items across numerous displays - but everything looks tidy and organized. Even the art room that displays a variety of art feels purposeful and orderly. Very well done.
