About the Tinker Preschool
Tinker Preschool, located in San Francisco, California, is a school that offers a unique and innovative approach to early childhood education. Our Tinkerlings are encouraged to explore the wonders of nature, from vibrant flower gardens to towering trees, as they embark on a journey of imagination and discovery. We believe in the importance of connecting with nature and engaging in S.T.E.A.M. education.
Our team of experienced educators is dedicated to building on the individual interests of each child, both in the classroom and beyond. We have created a nurturing learning environment that promotes innovation, creativity, and multifaceted thinking. The Reggio Emilia approach, which focuses on a child's natural development and curiosity, guides our teaching philosophy.
With locations in Inner Richmond, Cole Valley, and Noe Valley, Tinker Preschool offers a child-centric and constructivist approach to education. Come join us on this exciting journey of exploration and artistic expression!

Reviews of Tinker Preschool
"Hello, I am the director of this school. I'm writing to implore the community to be more understanding and to communicate with us in a way that builds community rather than to divide us. We have recently had several instances where adults in the neighborhood do not seem to understand Early Childhood Education and are misunderstanding what they are seeing. Instead, they see children crying and are assuming the worst. Rather than talk with us, they choose to follow our classes, sometimes yell at our staff, or even call the police. All of which are very disruptive to our program and understandably upsetting to the young children and our staff. We recently had a neighborhood adult call the police as they were walking back up the hill because one child, who was new to our program and still acclimating to our routine, was crying. A teacher was helping this child walking up the hill and helping them stay with the rest of the group, for safety. This adult instead claimed we were abusing this child by "dragging" them up the hill. This is absolutely untrue. The police arrived and investigated and told our teachers they were doing a great job. They even offered to give the class a ride up the hill. This adult was unhappy with this result and proceeded to continue to berate our staff and submit an anonymous negative review instead. Another time, a neighborhood adult was upset that our children were walking around in the rain, ignoring the fact that the children were laughing and having a great time. They decided to harass our staff and follow the class for several blocks, even threatening to take their pictures and post it online (which we informed them would be illegal). We are a progressive childcare facility that encourages physical activity, which is why you may frequently see us walking all around the neighborhood; this includes in the rain, which we do with the permission and blessing of the parents of all of our students, and up and down these daunting hills. I would like to assure you and the neighborhood that each child in our program is well cared for and loved by each and every teacher, with no abusive practices whatsoever. Please let me share that we have rolling admissions, which means frequently we have new children who are acclimating to the new school environment which is why they cry. Some are not old enough yet to say, “When is lunch?” or “I miss my mommy”, so teachers help them slowly and surely acclimate to the school schedule and bond with their teachers and peers. I truly would like to share customs, practices, and philosophies at any time with you and any community member who would like to know more about our program. I can assure you that parents, families, and children are well cared for with very transparent, exciting, and fun practices. If you ever see anything you don't understand, please come to us and speak with us. We would love to share open communication so that we can build and strengthen our community together."
