Residence Inn by Marriott San Diego Sorrento Mesa/Sorrento Valley

"Our room was clean and cozy! Although I am mainly leaving this review to commend the concierge worker named Jessica. Jessica was very friendly and respectful. She was managing a few different guests and helped them all very efficiently. Once we were up she greeted us with a smile and was extremely communicative. She helped us with our room location and was just overall so sweet! Checking into hotels can be so stressful sometimes but she made it so easy and efficient. We appreciate her so much!"

"My partner is a platinum elite member and with the treatment we got, we would not recommend staying here. We definitely will not be returning. We got a 1 bed executive suite- the windows were broken; there was no dish soap or body lotion that we had to go down 2x to ask for, after being told the first time to go back and check again; dishes stowed away in cabinet were dirty; hair conditioner was not properly refilled before our check-in that we ran out during our stay. We got late checkout for 4pm but they still knocked on our door at 12pm and housekeeping staff camped outside our door when we were working, until we checked out at 4pm. The housekeeping staff saw us carrying our dog on our way out and was like “oh, a pet” in an unfriendly and presumptuous tone, and then we were retroactively charged a $56 pet cleaning fee and notified via email hours after checking out. I get there’s a policy, but there were no spills, accidents, damages done by by our senior dog while she was there that required any kind of pet cleaning. She had her own dog booties for outside that we take off when we get indoors, and literally only slept and walked around the floor while she was there. We even carried her from the room to outside the building for her to do her business."

"Came in today from the east coast. I arrive and they demand an ID from the organization that booked me. Their solution when I didn't have it with me was to charge me today's rate which was over 200% more. By the way, I’m titanium elite with over 100 nights with Marriott. Very disrespectful and not the Marriott customer service that I've experienced over 15 years as a loyal customer. Instead I went over to Hyatt next door and got outstanding service."

"This is an older, but clean property in a safe location. We didn't use much of the amenities during our stay so I can't say anything about that. Our room tended to get a funky odor during the day but I wonder if the person next to us was actually cooking in their kitchen. We had one window that could open and that took care of the problem. For fitness enthusiasts or those that like a quiet walk, there are miles upon miles of trails about a half mile away. We even saw a coyote at a distance on our run. Breakfast is great: cereal, oatmeal, bagels, hard boiled eggs, scones, biscuits, and rice are available daily, along with several rotating hot options. We saw egg white frittata, sugared waffles, egg and cheese muffins/croissants, and scrambled eggs. And we were only there three days! But what really makes this hotel special is the breakfast staff. Both we interacted with were friendly but Carol absolutely makes the place feel homey and like you've got a mom or a grandma watching over you. She smiles and greets everyone, offers to clear your plate for you, asks you how your day is, and you can even catch her singing as she works. I don't know if I've ever met someone so happy to be at work. I hope Residence Inn knows they have a gem!"

"Everything you would expect from a Residence Inn, including the remnants of the previous guests cooking smells. The room was fine. Pros: Breakfast was good, and the breakfast lady and guy were very friendly. They kept things clean and were accommodating. Kudos to them! The front desk at checking and checkout were friendly and helpful. WIFI is very good. Overall the property was clean and well kept. Cons: - A surprise $16 per day parking charge that makes no sense. There is plenty of parking off street and the location of this property is in a very large business park and not in a crime area. The parking you are paying for does not seem to have any real benefits to offset the cost. - Construction next door, is loud and yes, we heard it from our room. There is nothing really around the hotel for food or groceries unless you drive over 4 miles. - Lastly. The coffee was very weak! I put 2 of the coffee pods from my room into my cup along with the coffee in the lobby."
