"Great staff & Great facility. Special shoutouts to the front desk team members: Kenny, Christy, Geordy & Brandon for their bright energy day in and day out. The gym itself is fantastic with a full weight room, cardio room, basketball court, swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and much more. Very grateful to be a member of the Santa Monica Family YMCA!"
"Terrible staff/management. They decided to help themselves to an extra month off my credit card when it was a week before my billing month even began when I notified them I was leaving the gym because of filth. Then Christie laughed at me when i asked her not to charge my card. Her manager Eduardo stepped in and refused to even listen to my side of the story. This raises huge concerns for me about their billing practice. I will be filing a complaint with the city. And to top it off the machines are completely filthy and sticky half the time."
"If you’re looking for a place that cares about professionalism and customer service, this is NOT the place to be. I was just working out one day like any other day until this older white woman asked me if I was still using the machine I was on. I told her I was still using it, then she began filming me (filming me in that context is breaks both YMCASM policy and California state legislature), a young person of color, and told the workers at the YMCA that I had refused to let her work in (which both never happened and is not even in violation of a single YMCA rule). Instead of at all attempting to hear my side of the story I was told they had a two minute video (the woman’s illegal footage) of me refusing to let this white lady work in with me and that i was to be banned for a week from their facility. So my basic response was to ask to see the video and I was told they didn’t have to show me anything, so anyone with half a brain knows that means they were full of it. I proceeded then to be told I had to cancel my membership because I was arguing with them. Instead of attempting to amend the situation at all, they sided with the white lady and refused to refund me for the month I already paid (it’s only about 30 dollars), that I will no longer be able to use as I had been wrongfully kicked out. So instead of hearing out my side of the story the YMCA workers passed it up the chain of command until I was told the CEO (middle aged white man) had been told of my situation and still chose to side with the random lying white lady, typical. So what I’ve learned from this is that the YMCASM cares far more about 30 dollars than equality and fairness. If you value social justice at all, the YMCASM may not be the best place for you if you value those things based on the way they have handled my situation. Unless you’re okay with being treated horribly even as a paying customer, I would stay as far away from the YMCA Santa Monica as possible."
"Locker # 33 in the men’s locker room is ‘occupied’ ‘inhabited’ someone lives out of it. There’s been a guy hanging around it ‘open’ for hours now, and he’s got everything in there except for the kitchen sink. I don’t feel safe in here."
"This gym has great equipment and sanitary protocols. The staff is nice."
