"Rooms in the Silo building are actually really pretty cool! In room amenities are really good as well (Dove products...really nice!!) Only downside is the even numbered rooms are right on the train tracks. It xan be pretty loud, and when a long one goes by it can shake a bit. For me, not that big a deal as I wake every hour anyway, but for light, or heavy for that matter, sleepers, bring earplugs or noise canceling earphones. GREAT continental breakfast!!!"
"This hotel is sub par at best. Tucked up next to the 5 freeway, this is the kind of hotel that is good for a quick stop late at night before you continue on your travels. Most of the hotel is an old converted silo barn, made out of solid concrete. “Murder Castle” “creepy” and “prison” are all used to describe this part of the hotel in other reviews and we agree. We explored that part of the hotel when we visited the fitness center and we couldn’t wait to get out of there. NO WHERE on the listing of the site we booked with is this building shown or mentioned so I was quite surprised when I Google Earth-ed the property, saw it, and did some digging. (From now on I will Google Earth the hotel BEFORE booking.) We actually stayed in the newer building, which is more of a Motel-vibe. While these rooms are better lit and have actual paint on the walls, that’s where the improvements end. There were several rips in our carpet as well as paint chipped off the walls. Our phone didn’t work so I had to call the front desk on my cell. While the bathroom was mostly clean, it still felt dingy. The toilet handle needed to be held to flush properly, the shower head leaked, the sink was barely attached, and there was peeling paint and scratches all over. On top of all this, they didn’t have any extra pillows to bring us, despite it still being early evening. Thankfully we were only staying one night so we toughed it out."
"I love staying at this hotel specially in the back hotel. This used to be farm land and the back hotel was were they stored bulk foods in silos. I think it’s great how they turned it into a hotel, and you can still see remnants of the silos. It’s great also for the fact that the building is made of thick cement so you don’t have to hear your neighbor or there TV. It’s almost sound proof! Not like how they make buildings today. The staff is also very professional, polite and friendly. This is my go to hotel when I’m in the area."
"The place was mediocre. The rooms are dated. Some of the outlets don’t work. The shower head is very low. If you’re taller than 5”4 then you have to squat. They only give you 1 tiny bottle of shampoo for the whole room. It’s literally enough for 1 person. Breakfast is ok but there aren’t many protein options other than boiled eggs. The carpet is worn out in some of the rooms and needs to be replaced."
"The family and I wanted to spend some time in Irvine and be close to the Spectrum. Great location! Near the freeway, only a few minutes away from the Spectrum, and next to a family owned hamburger restaurant that we enjoyed. We didn’t expect to see the historical farmhouse in the back so that was a pleasant surprise to have an educational experience as well! I saw some reviews complaining about the noise from the trains but we could hardly notice the noise. In fact, the kids actually thought the train was cool. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. Overall, pleasant stay, friendly staff, great location. Would stay again!"
