"Given it was not my first time visiting this establishment. I really think they should reconsider some of the young black girls they have working here. I visited one day with my grandmother and the girl that was working was so rude and disrespectful, she acted as if she couldn’t hear me when I requested treats and asked for them to be warmed up. She had a very nonchalant attitude as she pointed me to the register as if I didn’t know where it was and I was done ordering. When I looked at my grandmother and gave her a look as to say “idk what her problem is” the girl mimicked me and proceeded to look dumb. When we paid for the food, my grandmother being the kind woman she is still left a tip for the ungrateful girl and we then had a staring match where she later rolled her neck at me as I walked out. Never had this experience to prior visits there and it’s sad that my grandmother and I had to deal with this behavior. Also, when we got to the car the treats were still cold, meaning she didn’t even care to listen to clear instructions. She was too busy carrying her attitude on her shoulders."
"It was a chilly evening when I went to this place without any prior plan for a bakery shop. Actually I was looking for a coffee! I ate a baked puff with ham and cheddar and jalapeño. It was good, but I thought it would have been better if the raw jalapeño was not there inside. There was not much options available at that moment, so I’m again going back. Update: I revisited. This time i got myself a pepperoni pocket and an eclair. The pepperoni pocket was a baked pastry puff with some pepperoni and tomato inside. It was quite greasy. The eclair was not too sweet , which is good. However, it was not that great too!"
"I ordered almond and red velvet cupcakes for a bridal shower and they were a HUGE hit. Several guests stated they don’t typically like bakery cupcakes but wanted seconds of these. The almond cupcakes were by far the best cupcake I’ve ever eaten. The texture was moist with just enough crumb and the frosting was fluffy and light without being overly sweet. I’m definitely ordering more ."
"As a community based bakery, Lucy J’s Bakery features some very sweet, business savvy people to interact with here in Memphis from the bakers to the cashiers themselves. While I’m honestly not a big fan of basic bakery goods like sugar cookies and simple baguettes, I will say that they do a much better job that what I would get at the grocery store and in some cases, some other bakeries around town that I will not name on here for privacy’s sake. If some of their speciality items like their pumpkin cheesecake contained more actual pumpkin flavor, I would give them a higher score, but for now, I would really love to see this bakery continue to grow. If you’re in Midtown and are looking for a decent bakery, I recommend giving Lucy J’s a shot. :)"
