"This church was part of the Old Victorian Home Tour. They were the welcoming center, and were so friendly. They let everyone walk through their beautiful church with its stained glass windows. People were talkative and nice. They had refreshments downstairs and let the guests could use their restrooms if needed. Awesome experience!"

"Small class size is usually a plus as it allows the educators to give more personalized attention. The school is great for elementary education. However, it doesn't quite meet up to the needs of older students (Jr. high+). The biggest draw back is it doesn't keep in step with Knox public schools. For example, the grading system is much more stringent, ie: a B earned at public school is only a C here. So when your child must transfer (FLS only goes to 8th grade) their transcripts will not represent their actually ability/achievement. They may show a C average per FLS grading, but actually be B+ or>, which could prevent their acceptance into advanced classes in the KCPS system. Furthermore, being a parochial school, there area certain areas, particularly the sciences, where children are not taught the facts because it conflicts with FLC theological beliefs. Having been a science major myself, I have a huge problem with my child being taught that a biblical account is factual when scientific evidence conclusively proves otherwise. The only thing worse than no education is erroneous education. Finally, FLS doesn't offer competitive salary/benefits to attract/retain the most qualified candidates for teaching and superintendent positions. Therefore, openings, such as principal, are filled with a teacher irreguardless of the persons qualifications/experience. In summation, FLS is great for children grades K-5, but doesn't compete with larger, better funded schools for grades 6 and up."

"Warm and welcoming, First Lutheran is a wonderful community. The church was nearly full with lots of young families. The message was a clearly Bible based. I will return."
