"I preface this by saying my family has gone to Peony Seafood Restaurant for a lot of years. My wife and I had a smaller wedding banquet there, and I've been there for several banquet and large events, as well as for dim sum lunches. Currently this is one of the only big restaurants left in Oakland Chinatown, it's in the second floor of the Pacific Renaissance Plaza where there's parking below. Bottom line the dim sum and dinner menu is pretty tasty and authentic. Dim Sum time can be pretty busy, they do have a backroom/VIP room with a slightly upgraded experience with a slightly higher tea price (it's likely to get seated quicker there). Their dinner menu is pretty solid as well."

"Came here for dinner (not many choices left in Oakland Chinatown). Unlike their dim sum and lunch that is above par, their dinner option was just the opposite. Their dinner menu selection was pretty limited, but the selection they did have, it was not bad. Portions were smaller than their comparable counterparts, but the for dishes that we tried, it was very good and freshly prepared. For a party of 12, we ended up ordering over 10 dishes plus 1.5 order of soup. Staff here were plentiful and the restaurant is clean. There's parking underground but no more valet."

The wait time for a table was a bit longer than expected, but we were eventually seated in the quieter tea lounge section of the restaurant. This area was conducive to a more peaceful dining experience, and the server did inform us upfront about the tea charge, which was appreciated. If you're seeking a serene space to enjoy your dim sum, the tea lounge section is worth considering. As for the food, there were no major complaints. The dim sum offerings tasted good and satisfied my craving. However, while the flavors were enjoyable, there was nothing particularly remarkable that stood out."
