Alumni Hall Vanderbilt University

Alumni Hall at Vanderbilt University, located at 23rd Avenue North in Nashville, Tennessee, is a historic institution with a rich architectural significance. Originally opened in 1925, Alumni Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. Designed by Nashville architect Henry C. Hibbs, the building represents the Collegiate Gothic style and served as the original student center on Vanderbilt's campus for nearly 50 years.

The construction of Alumni Hall was driven by the desire to honor the Vanderbilt men who fought and died in World War I. The Memorial Room on the second floor of the building features the names of the 44 Vanderbilt casualties carved in stone above the fireplace mantles. Over the years, Alumni Hall has served various purposes, from a student center to administrative offices.

In 2011, Alumni Hall underwent its first renovation in 86 years, preserving its architectural history while updating the facilities to support a wide range of activities. The renovated facility now offers catered dining, meeting spaces, study areas, and socializing opportunities. The renovation project was approved by the Vanderbilt Board of Trust in November 2011 and was completed in the summer of 2013.

The renovated Alumni Hall includes a new exercise room in the basement, a café, lounge, and administrative offices on the first floor, and updated spaces on the second and third floors. The increase in meeting space is a response to the growing student engagement and leadership on campus. A valid Vanderbilt ID is required to access the Exercise Room in the Basement.

The Graduate School offices in Alumni Hall provide support services for graduate students and postdocs, including assistance with admissions, student services, communications, and career development. The offices are open from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Alumni Hall continues to be a hub of activity and support for the Vanderbilt University community.
