"Fantastic program! Kathy, the director, is well-known in the preschool community as a very professional and detail-oriented leader. She and her assistant director, Melissa, have built such a wonderful team of teachers that care deeply for the children and families they serve. They've also created a warm and welcoming learning environment that any child would be lucky to experience."
"Our daughter attended CYCS for a little over a year. The infant teachers were terrific - caring, attentive, warm, and just wonderful. We heard many other parents who had the same experience with the teachers. However, the administration and more specifically, Kathy Ennis, were awful to deal with. Condescending, entitled, and a bit of a bully are a few ways to describe her. And this is my attempt to be honest without being slanderous. She has a domineering attitude towards the parents as well as the teachers, and she ruined the experience for us. We ultimately pulled our child out of the school because she was so difficult to deal with. If you look online at other reviews of her and the school, our experience is unfortunately not a unique one. It is a shame that a school with such loving teachers and in such a nice location is run by such a person."
"In case anyone is considering sending her/his children to Calvary Young Children's School for child care, I should let you know about the traumatic experience I recently had when dealing with them. I received word early this past spring that a spot had opened for my daughter for the fall of 2015. I accepted and sent in our full deposit and registration form. Over the next few months I received some communication by mail from CYCS. I also called several times over the course of the summer, to update my mailing address and to ask questions about CYCS policies, each time identifying myself and my child by name and mentioning that she was enrolled for the coming fall. Every time I called, the person I spoke with acted entirely familiar with me and my information. So, one can imagine my shock when I called a day prior to orientation--only four days prior to the fall start date--to make sure that we weren't missing any mail from CYCS, and the person I spoke with abruptly informed me that my husband and I had “pulled out months ago!” She had a note on my file to that effect (...a file which contained no evidence of the paperwork I had mailed in, although, curiously, the check that I mailed in the same envelope had been successfully deposited). When I frantically told her that there had to be some mistake, that this had been our plan for months, she informed me that I or my husband MUST have called and removed my daughter from the enrollment list BY MISTAKE (...later in the spring, after I had already sent in my deposit check and registration form and had received communication from them via mail...) . Now, everyone knows how seriously even half-decent parents take their children’s care, on which depends not only the well-being of the child but also the parent's very ability to go to work and provide for that child. Given that common knowledge, I found and still find her suggestion absurd and insulting. I was completely distraught, and even so, she informed us that there was nothing to be done to rectify the situation and continued to suggest that the error must have occurred on our end rather than theirs. To further punctuate that insult, CYCS has even refused to refund our deposit, based on their insistence that it is their policy that it is a non-refundable fee. IF you have your child on the wait list at CYCS and are not discouraged from sending him/her there after learning of my experience, I would strongly recommend that you insist upon communicating with them via e-mail to secure a record of the arrangements you have made. I would also recommend that you insist that, in the event that they understand you to have removed your child from the school, they should send you an e-mail to that effect before they offer your child's spot to the next person on the wait list."
