"Ruben is incredible and one of the best hair stylists I've ever had. I visited him for a men's cut after having a slew of poor experiences at other salons. I explained the type of cut I wanted, and we went through options of what would work with my hair, what he thought would look fun and different, how I could grow into different styles, etc. I felt very taken care of and trusted his vision. Not to be too hyperbolic, but I've never gotten so many compliments from friends on a haircut before! I feel more confident, cool, and excited about myself than before. I've recommended multiple friends to see Ruben as well and they've similarly had awesome experiences with him. The other stylists are very hip and cool (team Ruben though) as are both the Nopa and Mission spaces."

"Don’t just look at overall stars, really take your time to read reviews and understand this place so you don’t end up as I did. They do not deserve your money or time. Requested a single process with the Senior Stylist to darken grown out, light brown highlights to match my natural brunette hair in the top half and now have a full head of hair so dark brown that it’s nearly black. My fiancé was appalled. I look like Loki’s sister. The studio doesn’t answer texts (don’t try) or calls and eventually said “let it fade” and “sorry you feel like your roots are dark.” I don’t “feel” it, it is objectively so dark I’m unrecognizable, and it’s permanent. A $400+ disaster from a team who doesn’t care and doesn’t listen."

"Blondes! This one’s for you. I’ve had a lot of difficulty finding/trusting someone with my fragile (damaged) hair. Many experiences in the past have left me struggling with breakage etc. I found Ruben through a friend who highly recommended him. So happy I decided to book for a full highlight & cut. Ruben is so kind and honest with what’s sustainable for your hair long term and he actually cares. I really respect the time & effort he put into his work. My hair feels so much healthier & the highlights blend sooo well. Couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The salon is full of talented artists & it really shows! "Totally disappointing experience! I had only heard good things about population but on my first visit I was left looking worst than when I arrived. To make matters worse when I requested an adjustment they insisted I would have to go back to the same person. I couldn’t wait a week to have this fixed and wasn’t prepared to risk it again. After sharing pictures I was told by the salon I would receive a full refund. This was then retracted a day later and I was offered half. The time and money I have since spent on fixing this mess, has made this a completely traumatic experience and for that reason I would not recommend population:"
