"I have been a patient of Dr. Stacey’s for about 10 years. I have loved her practice so much that I have referred many friends and family her way. The standard of care and warm atmosphere had me raving that our family had the best dentist in Sacramento. However, I recently had two horrible experiences with a hygienist who made wildly inappropriate comments about my teeth and face. She said I have a classic “mouth breather” face, asked if I “have ever ran anything between my teeth” and implied I was lying when I reported that I floss nightly. The hygienist, named Lisa J., unkindly pointed out my tongue thrust saying, “you’re thrusting all over the place” and told me the measures I’m taking to remediate my myofunctional issues were “stupid”. At my first appointment with Lisa J.,she forced my mouth shut with her fingers without my consent to prove I “couldn’t breathe out of my nose because I’m a mouth breather”. Her comments and actions were cruel and shocking as well as far outside of her scope of practice as a hygienist (no credential in myofunctional therapy). I reported her misconduct in a feedback survey given to me by the front desk and requested that I never be treated by her again. When Dr. Stacey called me about the appointment, she stated that she knew the hygienist for a long time and found “that it’s hard to believe she would say or do these things”. She did not offer a way to resolve this issue or take any accountability. This was very disheartening to hear from a dentist I trusted for a decade and who made a Hippocratic oath to practice with “integrity and compassion”. This has been a very horrible and traumatic experience for me, but I’m glad it happened before I sent my children here who are toddler aged. No health care professional should treat a patient in this way. Deeply consider finding another dentist."
