"Review for Ben-Yay's Jonesboro, AR In restaurants about 5:20pm We ordered crawfish mac & cheese, gumbo, shrimp basket, and an order of beignets. They do have a bar. Took 50- 55 minutes to get our food. Our server was nice and attentive, but she apologized for the kitchen repeatedly. Said they only had one cook. Restaurant was not that busy, about 9-10 people at the time. Once the food arrived, it was pretty good. Gumbo was very green peppery. The beignets were undercooked and complete dough in the middle. We might give them another try, but they do need to straighten their kitchen out. We want good restaurants in downtown."
"Good food, quiet atmosphere, great service. Would eat here again We went on a Wednesday around 7:00pm and expected it to be a bit busier than it was. Two patrons at the bar and the booths were occupied but other than that, it was just my sister and me. We were greeted when we walked in, a good start. We went in thinking it was Yesdogs (this is important later.) Our waitress (Brooklyn) offered the drink specials and took our drink orders; I ordered a Shiner Bock and my sister ordered a Yuengling. We also ordered Boudin Balls. Cajun food is cooked with the trinity, which is onions, celery, and bell peppers. It just so happens that my sister and I are allergic to bell peppers, weird I know. Because of this we were reluctant to order any of the entrees. Fortunately, there were several good choices of appetizers which is what we ordered. We started with the boudin balls which were pretty tasty. I would add a bit more spice to it for authenticity but otherwise they arrived at the table hot and crispy. The remoulade tasted more like honey mustard, no traces of horseradish and pickle juice. The ranch dressing tasted like the original Hidden Valley Ranch and was perfect! We also ordered fried green tomatoes, literally the smallest tomatoes I've ever seen. The crab and fireworks salsa was good, the tomatoes tasted good as well. However, they were smaller than a salsa lid to give you a visual representation. Next up was the order of wings... simply seasoned with garlic, salt, and pepper but perfectly cooked. To finish out the order, we ordered Gator bites. Alligator can be tough and chewy sometimes, and a few of the nuggets were such, fortunately, the bulk of the order was very tasty."
"Visited this New Orleans-inspired restaurant in downtown Jonesboro. We ordered the calamari and gumbo as appetizers. The calamari was perfect and served with a good remoulade sauce. The gumbo was ok. They use a blonde roux and the veggies weren't cooked down enough. We got the catfish basket and the alligator po boy as entrees. The catfish basket was rather expensive but the fillets were huge. It came with two sides and my son got fries and crawfish mac and cheese. He said both were great. The alligator po boy comes with alligator sausage and not fried alligator, which is what I was expecting. It was still good but a designation on the menu would be nice. We got the bread pudding for dessert. Although it was good, it was heavy on the nutmeg. If that was cut down it would be perfect. The place wasn't too crowded and they have a bar if you want an alcoholic beverage. Our waitress was great! Overall not a bad spot and I would go back."
"I was excited to come here for the "soft opening" menu of Ben Yay's. Came in about 4:30 on a Friday. The place was not busy, there were a few drunks at the bar that were loud and acting like overgrown toddlers every once in awhile and one other booth occupied. Our waitress was good. The decor and the building is nice, I really like the old downtown buildings. The food was ok, sorry, it really was just okay. I was disappointed as I was looking forward to Ben Yay's, I will try it one more time once they have their full menu available, we'll see if it improves. Ordered fried oyster deviled eggs and the oysters were breaded and fried, not much you can say about that, the filling for the deviled eggs was just the yellow yolk with not much flavor to it. It had some red stuff sprinkled on it, I assume paprika, but it did not lend much to the taste. On top of that, the eggs were not much better, not bad, just ok. They tasted like pre-packaged, hard-boiled, gas station eggs. I was really hoping that this dish would hit a home run but it was a walk. The sausage po'boy was very salty. The fries were seasoned well but the sandwich was a bit much on the salt. Aside from that, it was ok. The drinks were good, they don't seem to skimp on alcohol, it seems like a good amount. Probably won't be back since the food was not a huge attraction for me. They do offer 2 unisex bathrooms and the restaurant is located on Main St, so walking the quiet area after dinner could be an attraction for you. There are also other places to eat along Main St."
"Went on a slow night and service was ok. Atmosphere is lacking due to renovations, but loved the food. Everything was hot, I guess it took a little longer because everything was made to order. I still think about how good the wild hog dip and blue cheese burger were. It’s my new craving. Fries were also good, with big portions. Decent value for the type of food"
