Reviews of Mud Island Park
"Great place to get your steps in. Nice view of the city. Came here on a weekend and it was empty. Peaceful and quiet but also really hot that day. It’s a bit of a walk from the parking make sure you bring a water bottle and pee before going as the restrooms were locked when we went. Overall, I highly recommend checking this place out."
"This was a great spot for us to stretch our legs and take in views of the Mississippi River and Memphis skyline. With free admission, it's a nice place to take a walk. You have to park across the street, walk across a long bridge, then down to the actual park. It is wheelchair/stroller friendly, as well as pet friendly. My only complaint is it looked run down and almost eerie. I would not feel comfortable walking alone. There was a very large scale model of the entire Mississippi River winding through the park. I assume it was once filled with water and fountains, but it had been drained during our visit in late June."
"I know that this place is being renovated but I would avoid it until its done. We visited yesterday and it wasnt good at all. It was kind of creepy. There was men on the bridge asking to buy cigarettes for us. Then there were 4 other men sleeping on benches around the park. It felt uncomfortable. Its said seeing how run-down it is, I hope the renovations are wonderful and bring families back to this area."
"This open air, free admission, park located along the mighty Mississippi River is very exciting to visit. As it is an open area we took our dog (on a leash) and followed the Excellent map of the cities along the South Central part of the Mississippi from Tenn to the Gulf of Mexico. The map is a topographical map that shows the deep channels as well as the cities along the river and the main waterways that enter into the Mississippi. This is really a very interesting way to get some idea of the impact this river has on our lives. Take a walk along the mighty Miss!"
"While we enjoyed our stroll along the Mississippi, this wasn’t a high point on our trip to Memphis. It was t easy to find the spot where we reserved parking. We enjoyed the sculpted replica of the Mississippi River; still, I would have liked more geographical detail at the informational kiosks along the way. We were quite happy to find the Memphis sign along the way for photos. Overall, it was worth it for a low-key, inexpensive activity where we learned a little about the Old Man River and got some good photos."
