Reviews of Mission Hills Automotive
"Always friendly, accommodating, and have never had a problem with the work they have done on both of my cars. And they get in touch with you a few days after doing work just to make sure everything is OK. They even contacted my warranty company for me on an issue covered by an extended warranty!"
"The online scheduling was easy and convenient. My car was quickly processed into the queue and I received the text to check status. The texted link for service recommendations was thorough and easy to understand. Communication was great throughout the process and very happy with the service!"
"2-7-24 (0900-1000): Fred, manager, was awesome. He personally called me back within 10 minutes after I left a message that I needed urgent repairs. He gave me an appointment and then allowed me to change the time when my schedule changed. The temporary service/repair was quick and exact (making the car immediately functional again). An estimate was given to complete the final repair. I highly recommend Mission Hills Auto and endorse Fred as an outstanding manager who cares about his job and clients. Thank you Mission Hills Auto."
"This is a longer story, but if you're looking at the reviews here's one you might want to keep in mind before taking your car here. *Please note that my experience may be the exception and not the rule, as there are plenty of positive reviews of this shop! There are always two sides to every story and I see that the shop sometimes replies to reviews so maybe they can reply and explain their side. They started off strong, but ended poorly. Eight days prior to my car being serviced here I had my car battery replaced at Sam's Club because my car was not starting. I returned home after being out of town for a few days and my car would not start again. I was leaving town later the next day so instead of troubling my usual mechanic, located in Kearny Mesa I decided to walk down the street to Mission Hills Automotive for some help the following morning. The next morning I walked in and explained the situation to the service representative and he was extremely helpful. He walked down the street to my garage where my car was parked and he jump started my car and I brought it in for a diagnostic. Super grateful and wonderful service! However, this is where the story took an unfortunate turn. I came in two hours later after they finished their diagnostic and they said the brand new battery was not holding a charge and advised that I change the battery along with a few other recommendations. (See the photos below for receipt) They offered to change my battery for $397, but I said if it's truly a faulty battery I can just take it back to Sam's Club and have them replace it. So I took the battery back to Sam's Club and explained the situation. They said they would test it and would happily replace the battery if it was no longer holding a charge. A few moments later the results came in and... It was perfectly fine. (see the results of the test in the picture below) You can imagine my confusion when I saw the results, could Mission Hills Automotive have lied to me about a faulty battery? Is it possible they didn't even test the battery? These were a few of the questions running through my mind unfortunately I was out of town for the next two weeks and there was nothing I could do. Over the two weeks I thought about how to best navigate this situation and decided that I would ask Mission Hills Automotive about the situation. Surely they would understand my confusion and help me rectify it. I walked into the office and talked with the same service representative and explained the situation. The owner overheard our conversation and offered an explanation to me, but here is where it got confusing so these are the three main points of communication I remember... He said they have a different way of testing their batteries at Mission Hills Automotive and that Sam's Club's battery tests won't actually test if the battery can crank the car from a dead start. Then he went into the science of car batteries and how there is actually no way to fully confirm whether or not a battery is good. He ended with asking where I got my battery from to which I answered Sam's Club and he said to check the date because sometimes they leave their batteries on the shelf too long and they are no longer good. He walked off and I was left with the service representative who said the only thing they could do was another diagnostic for another $100 and if it showed again that my battery needed to be replaced they could go ahead and do it. I already had low trust so I walked away confused and frustrated and a non working car. I went back to my car and decided I would try and start it again and if it didn't start I would tow it to my usual mechanic. I tried to start it and to my surprised it actually started so I brought it into my usual mechanic and he said it looks like my terminals were corroded and that was the most likely cause, especially if its a new battery. He tested my battery, said it was fine, changed the battery terminals and my car is running perfectly fine."
"I took my old car here about 10 years ago and had a great experience (from what I can recall). Now that we are back in the area, we needed a few things checked on our Mazda and made an appointment (which was very easy to do online). We dropped the car off easily and quickly, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Our car was found to have extensive electronic issues, and they advised us to take the car to the dealership as Mazda would be better suited to handle the issue. The staff was honest and transparent and even waived the diagnostic given the outcome. We will definitely be back!"
