"My friend and I had a fantastic time at Kusaki. It was our first time there. We got the Salmon Sashimi (probably our favourite, the most delicate yet explosive flavours), the King Mushroom Roll (good but overshone by some other heroes), the Watermelon Granita Nigiri and Korean Pear Nigiri which were both so clever and so wisely used- disguised to just the right extent. The slayfish Nigiri and Yellowtail Nigiri were also good but not the showstoppers for the night. The pandan panda cotta was complimentary and sent in on account of a birthday and was great too- not too sweet, great texture contrast with the caramelised sugar and the fresh strawberry cut the sweetness perfectly. Service was excellent too. Overall, a wonderful meal and I’ll definitely be back."
"My girlfriend and had a wonderful experience here on Friday night. We had a 7:00 reservation and did the 7-course omakase experience at the bar. They handed out a menu for drinks which had a nice assortment of beers, wines (Japanese and non) and sakes and we had the matcha beer and a sake which were great. The chefs behind the bar taking care of us were so friendly and gave us detailed explanations of every course. The head chef and owner was also there and made conversation with us. Highly recommend this vegan gem to anyone in Los Angeles. Service, food and ambiance were all 5 stars which is not easy to find."
"Best vegan sushi I’ve ever had! I’m not personally vegan but I would absolutely eat this regularly!! Got Omakase from chef Pearl and each dish was such a perfect substitute for the meat versions, they really looked and tasted just like the fish they were replacing! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, the entire staff were having a lot of fun and really seemed like a family :)) If you’re in LA, you should definitely try it. Perfect for a romantic date or fun night out with friends!"
"Overall, dinner at Kusaki was worth it for the unique experience of a vegan sushi restaurant. They really do a good job of approximating the flavor and texture of fish well enough that it doesn’t distract from the culinary experience, even for non-vegan sushi lovers. If you don’t eat fish but want to try sushi, this is about as close as you can get to the real thing! There were some very good dishes, and several that were underwhelming. In addition to that, service was haphazard, with dishes coming out in no particular order. The sashimi is the most interesting part of the menu, and the salmon shiso was our favorite. The tuna avocado was also great! The sailfish sashimi was much less special and had too much ponzu. The portabello fries are a must have. They’re fried in tempura batter and come with aioli. There was also a special fried shiso leaf that was topped with spicy tuna - delightful! The spicy tuna sticky rice is also a great appetizer. Nigiri is tasty but can be expensive, so I would go for the sashimi for a more interesting experience of the imitation fish. I do not recommend the rolls - our dragon roll was not special in any way and lacked delicate construction. The burgers are tasty but really just taste like impossible meat - you can make it yourself at home and miss nothing. Finally, the desserts were good, but pricey! They are pretty small, so you might not be able to split it for two people."
"Absolutely amazing dinning experience. The food was delicious, I went with a non vegan friend who thought the food was terrific. Service was outstanding, very clean and good value for the money. 100% recommended."
