Reviews
"Really great place. The service was excellent. The sushi was quite good. Noma roll and Tako nigiri were my highlights. Nice sake. Good value too."
"This is a local Asian owned-and-operated sushi spot in San Mateo, which has slowly become a foodie hotspot in the Peninsula! This place specializes in GOOD QUALITY fish - especially their salmon and bluefin tuna. I made a reservation over the phone and it was an easy process. Our table was ready when we arrived. I can see what the hype is about! The quality of fish is truly remarkable. Prices are reasonable too for the Bay Area. To get a good variety, I tried the Geisha - a roll without rice! This was very smooth and highlighted the fish. The soy paper added a nice change-of-pace to taste. My favorite roll was the Bluefin Lover's! This was PACKED with umami!! Seared maguro, fresh avocado, kiwami wasabi, sesame oil, AND truffle pate on top? This was loaded! I would definitely go out of my way to have this roll again. The table also shared a half dozen oysters and these were very fresh! They were dressed with various things, which elevated the taste a lot. My friends - who weren't fans of raw oysters originally - enjoyed it too! This restaurant definitely had a rush during dinner hours, so the two waitresses on the floor were working continuously to help everyone out. They were really kind and efficient. At the end of the meal, they also gave us complimentary vanilla ice cream! We weren't expecting this at all. Thank you, Noma Sushi!!"
"Par is a fair assessment. Both the Sake and Unagi Nigiri (Salmon & eel) were generously portioned, but the Sake was hard to get through. First time in many sushi establishments. Edamame was piping hot, but slightly tough to open. Godzilla roll was out quickly, but the choice for the spice seemed off. The California roll was adequately sized+, but couldn't taste any of the crab, and suspect it was imitation (only $6), but made no mention of imitation products on the entire menu. If you have a craving for sushi, and it's busy elsewhere, you'll be able to find a table here. NOTE: The 2 places I intended to go to had 30-40 minute waits, while Noma was wide open, 70-80% open. I suspect others have recognized why. (Sunday evening, 6:30p)"
"Food here is amazing and maybe one of the best values in the mid peninsula. It's not quite as high end as Sushi Sam or Maruyama, but the price isn't as high either so I feel like it is well justified. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good sushi, but the place is getting more popular so reservations are recommended."
"Staff is friendly and attentive. Place is cute. Looks new and clean. A bit of a weird location though .... Oysters and beef tongue skewers were good. Everything else was just ok. Tastes fresh but strangely bland on the inside. All the sauces were great on the outside. Angry bird was probably the best out of the 3 we tired."
