"Honestly, I was very excited about this place and was somewhat disappointed by the execution of food, service and overall experience. I went with a larger group and due to the volume of people in the restaurant it was clear there was an inability to manage that level. The food was OK and could have been better. The wine was also ok and I was not allowed to taste wines before I made my final selections"
"The restaurant was fabulous and the people were great, I like the host and our server. The food was good, we loved the Taco plantain except the Mac and Cheese I didn't care for, but we will definitely be back."
"Love, love, L-O-V-E Alta! If you the get chance to go and experience it for yourself, GO! We sat outside on the back patio for lunch, which is beautiful. It was the perfect temperature. Nazareth, the host, was so warm and welcoming. He was delightful! Rashad was behind the bar when we were there for lunch on Saturday. His jalapeno watermelon seasonal lemonade was on pointe! So tasty! Imani, our server, took wonderful care of us. And, of course, Chef Keith is a community treasure! What a gem! We were a party of 8 and we had the Cornbread with Honey Butter; Deviled Eggs; Spicy Purple Sweet Potato Soup, Toasted, Coconut, Fried Banana; Jerk-Spiced Grilled Plaintain Tacos, Mango-Habanero Sauce as starters. For entrees we had House Smoked Brisket with Apple BBQ Sauce; Fried Fish Sandwich with Spicy Tartar Sauce, Slaw, Pickles; Vegan California Gombo with Market Veggies with Smoked Tofu; and Smoked and Fried Tofu with Spicy Tartar Sauce. For sides we ordered Red Beans and Rice; Collard Greens with Smoked Oil and Vinegar; and Mac and Cheese. Everything was amazingly good! I think the soup stole the show though. If that looks interesting to you, I highly recommend!! Don't skip on the collard greens. They are vegan! Also, be sure to check out the wine shop next door. They feature women and minority winemakers. Can't wait to go back!!!"
"O M G ! I finally made it to Alta! Ok ok, so I'm a HUGE insecure fan and on the show, Issa and Lawrence went to Alta. Being a fan, I had to check it out myself. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, regardless, I had high expectations. I have to say, all of my expectations were met, and then some. Hubby and I were greeted by a very nice Puerto Rican host. He gave us a mini tour of the restaurant showing us the bar, the garden, the art room, and the wine room. That alone blew my mind because I had no idea that there were different rooms. We decided to eat in the art room, which was romantic. When our waiter came, he gave us a rundown of the menu and explained that they serve an elevated take on soul food. I was intrigued! We ordered drinks! I most definitely had to get the purple region. Why you ask? It had edible glitter! It sparkled and was delicious! For appetizers, we got the devil eggs and the cornbread. Both were delish! The eggs were very unique with a hint of spice and the cornbread was very nostalgic. For our mains, we went with the fried chicken and the fried fish. We got a side of mac n cheese and yams. The fish was out of this world! I was a little skeptical at first because I can be very particular when it comes to fish. But it was perfection! The Mac n cheese was also perfect. The fried chicken was good and the yams were good. I was a little disappointed with the dessert menu. I was hoping for a bread pudding, a pie, or even a cobbler. But they didn't have any of what I was hoping for. Darn! Nonetheless, this was a beautiful experience and an overall amazing night. Great food, great service, great ambiance, great everything! Thank you, Alta!"
"This was on my list of places to visit while in LA and it did not disappoint. Came here for Sunday brunch with my sister and it was lovely. It was so peaceful sitting in the garden and the service was impeccable. Try the wine flight! For brunch we had the fish, black-eyed pea fritters, sweet potato soup, candied yams and shrimp and grits. The presentation was on point and so were the flavors!"
