"Had the catfish & prawns. It was perfect. I wanted lemonade but they suggested the Cool Aid, which I haven’t had since I was a kid. It was so good. Customer service was top tier. I will definitely visit again."
"I’ve been looking for a good soul food spot in Oakland for a minute now, and have tried just about every restaurant there is, so when Y’s showed up on my food delivery apps and I didn’t recognize it, I was eager to try. I had the Rasta Pasta w/Salmon, Catfish side, Wing side (lemon pepper flavor) and the cool aid was complimentary with a purchase of > $25. -Portions are decent. 10/10 -Presentation (packaged well, and aesthetically pleasing) 10/10 -Cool Aid was a nice throwback and not too sweet. 9/10 -Food temp/preparation: Overall 8.5/10 Salmon was cooked almost throughout the entire filet a nice medium to medium well, which I prefer but in small areas it was a little more cooked than I’d like. 9/10 Catfish was cooked to perfection. Hot, flaky, a little crispiness, light golden brown! 10/10 Lemon Pepper Wing - Was cooked juicy and golden brown and hot, however, it was wet so there wasn’t a crispiness to the skin and the lemon flavor was overpowering IMO. I only ordered lemon pepper because they don’t give you an option to choose just plain chicken wings- you must select a flavor and one of the “flavors” is salt and pepper, however they charge an additional $3.50 for it. Since when did salt and pepper not be included in just the simple seasoning process, and now you have to pay for it verses the other sauces/flavors?! This makes absolutely zero sense to me. And I’ll get to the seasoning efforts or lack there of later. 8/10 Rasta Pasta: Plentiful, looked delicious and pasta was cooked to my liking not too firm and just enough give with plenty of sauce. 10/10 Now onto Taste - 0/10 I read a few reviews where folks noted there food was too salty, on the contrary here, I didn’t taste a lick of salt in any of my dishes and that was truly disappointing and completely dissatisfying. I already mentioned the lemon pepper wing re taste, however, the salmon, catfish and pasta tasted like there was no salt, pepper, obay, just any type of salty, savory or regular seasonings whatsoever and what most soul food households are accustomed to using, tasting and enjoying. The catfish although cooked to perfection and golden brown was white underneath the batter and all throughout. Everything was so terribly bland. That said, I couldn’t finish any of it and that’s really upsetting and why I will not be patronizing Y’s Choice again and my search for a good soul food spot is sadly back on again."
"The food taste like it'a fresh out the microwave! Not even as good as JJ's fish n chips but theyre charging more than chef smelly"
"Hello people; I want to start this review by saying we came here on Thursday evening. We decided to come to this restaurant as my partner was a competitor in a pool tournament that was happening at this restaurant. We decided we should just get food at this restaurant since we were going to wait a while until the tournament officially starts. The place is very clean, well lit, has good amount of space and has about 10-11 tables that can seat 2-3 ppl. The space has a pool table that takes up the middle left portion of the restaurant but still has enough room to move around, play pool, make orders etc. After playing a game of pool, we decided we wanted to try the food they were offering, so we decided to get the prawns (grilled) and crab plate with the garlic noodles and 2 lemonades. The food was brought to us by the very sweet young lady which was at the register. The food smelled lovely great mix of the garlic, butter and the seafood; the food tasted even better, the noodles were a great melody of sweet, salty, garlic, butter and a mild kick. The prawns were grilled to perfection, juicy but still crispy, not dry at all , buttery and great combination of herbs and spices. The crab body and legs was very flavorful and buttery, made me do a little dance of joy. I will definitely come back here to try the other items on their menu and if your reading this, you should too."
