CRUST KITCHEN

"I will say this upfront… the issue I have is not with the food. My wife and I ordered the XL pepperoni pizza, chocolate cake and loaded Mac N Cheese fries. Those were all very good. Pizza was maybe “average” but it wasn’t bad like Pizza Hut. My issue is with how the place is run… I called at 4:23PM today and placed an order and was told 30 minutes. So at around 25 minutes I head over and one of the workers told me they weren’t open until 5:30pm. So I said “well I called and someone took my order”… he then said “no” and then finally a very nice woman spoke up from across the room and said that it was good. She then went to check on the food and told me it was another 10 minutes and I went outside to wait. 10 minutes later I walked back in and she then came around the corner visibly upset and I could hear the cooks laughing or making some various noises… she then told me they didn’t make it yet and would be at least another 20 minutes. She did offer me my money back (but no food with it) and I said I’d wait because I already left the hotel I was at and had no other options within a reasonable time. I finally got my meal at 5:30 and it was good, and I did get an extra piece of cake… but at the end of the day, the owner or managers there need to do a better job. Online there is no mention of them being closed 4-5:30pm… so if people call and are told “30 minutes”, then you should have the food ready. It’s not my fault they can’t update google/websites. It just seemed very unprofessional. I should have at least been comped half the food, and I know I didn’t ask for that, but a good business would have done it for the inconvenience. I would say I would go back because the food was really good… but overall, I felt like the only one who cared was the waitress and that’s unacceptable. (Management should be the ones caring more). I also did see one guy waiting to be seated after they just “reopened” who just left because no one was seating him… so it could have been an off-day for all I know."

"Definitely a hidden gem in the mission valley area. When we came in we were greeted by our server, Juan, who was more than polite. Juan even helped us out by letting us sample some of the cream sodas which were really good. We needed up getting the lemon berry cream soda. The buffalo chicken fries were some of the best buffalo chicken fries that we've ever had. We ordered two pizzas, the buffalo chicken pizza and the BBQ chicken pizza which were both great. The crust was really good on both of the pizzas. Overall the experience here was really good and didn't even really break the bank. Would recommend."

"Crust Kitchen was awesome! We noticed driving by and decided to try it. Right away, we noticed the warm hospitality. It has a breakfast and lunch menu. The prices are great for the large portion sizes. The food was delicious! The biscuits are phenomenal! Highly recommended?"

"My boyfriend and I stopped in because we were staying at the Atwood hotel and we were hungry! There was no wait! We were seated by a man. My boyfriend ordered the meat lover’s omelette and I ordered the eggs and french toast plate. We were surprised by the amount of food on each plate! My boyfriend really enjoyed his omelette. He wanted a lot of protein and got it! My French toast was yummy! The house potatoes were spot on! Overall, we highly recommend the breakfast here. While paying we found out the man who sat us was the man in charge. He was very busy. The waitress called out sick, causing him to step up and help at the tables. He was very attentive, even being torn between his many responsibilities. This place was a happy surprise!"

"Our first day in San Diego for my cousins wedding we had to eat lunch. This Crust Kitchen place (we thought was pizza) was right next to our hotel. The ambience looked pleasant on the photos and then we read the menu and it looked like there was more to offer. In my opinion the only advice I have for this company is maybe the name doesn't really highlight what it sells to its customers....moving on.. Our first trip we had the club sandwich, split with my wife and I. I checked in on Yelp and I got a free soda lol I was stoked but the server we had took about 15 minutes to come back. I don't remember her name but she wasn't a bad waitress. I was hoping for a soda on top of my water I ordered...also ordered a coffee but she didn't hear me so I stuck with my water w/no ice. The sandwich was great. THICK ham and Bacon but I will say it was dry(no mayonnaise)...great though. Not complaining. The potato chips tasted like a homemade baked lays. Wasn't impressed. Dry and no salt... Everything was good enough that day....until we went back the next morning! Thanks goodness the waffle spot was packed because we went back to the Crust Kitchen. Our server Vera was phenomenal! Wow! Her smile, her laughter, her attention to detail, and her ability to get us what we needed before we even asked for it. She had GREAT recommendations and yet even explained how I would probably not like something based in my tastes. The Mexican omelet was bursting with flavor! The salsa, jalapeños, lots of cheese, and don't even get me started on the flavor of the fresh coffee... It was to die for! I've had lots of coffees in my lifetime but their house black coffee is hands down the best! From piping hot flavors, to even when it was room temperature. It never became sour and I could actually taste the after notes in the coffee while drinking it. Vera was nice enough to give us a cup to go. Without even asking. That's amazing service! Vera deserves a raise. Maybe we will see you again Crust Kitchen. Maybe with a different name? lol The only bad item on the meal was the breakfast potatoes. They were not cooked all the way, soggy and not crisp...same with the vegetables cooked into them. I'd come here and sit in Vera's section."
