Reviews of PhilHouse
"Been here several times and they have a variable of dishes , prices are moderate but worth it becouse it's good comfort food,, I like the lumpia, Screwed barbeque chicken and their beef caldereta. Overall great service and would recommend eating good Filipino food.."
"To be fair, this low review score has more to do with the way the employees treat people that don't speak togalog. From my experience, they are incredibly rude, unhelpful, ungrateful, and cold (like a lot of their food). I lived down the street and used to come all the time but tbh I do my best to not buy from establishments that don't have public restrooms and/or have employees with terrible attitudes. Sadly, Phil House in West Covina has made it onto that list. To the staff, I wish you'd find a job that brings you joy. You all look miserable and are hurting the business."
"Went here twice. First time was around breakfast. The server seemed annoyed serving us cause we ask what foods were part of the breakfast combo we're ordering. I would get it if we're holding up a line but at that time we're the only patrons there. Second time again server seemed annoyed for asking a simple question. Food is not that good nor is it bad. I'm pretty sure I've had better laing, lumpia and other foods from a carinderia somewhere in manila. Its bland and the flavor got no kick. Laing was basically diluted in taste, where's the salty flavor that would make you eat a mountain of rice? None."
"Very disappointed in the fried vegetable lumpia from the Philhouse turo-turo inside Island Pacific in West Covina, CA. It was filled with corn, peas and carrots. Really? The frozen type mixed vegetables you get from the store? The same vegetables side dish you get from a frozen dinner? And at over a dollar per piece? C'mon, you call this Filipino lumpia? Such a disgrace to the lumpia!!! It would have been very embarrassing if I brought a couple dozen or more of these "wanna be lumpia" to a potluck party!!! The sidewalk vendors in the Philippines would be upset, insulted and ashamed to make it this way, let alone sell it! Extremely disappointed!!!"
"Food was cold, expensive, very greasy and unappetizing. The person serving me seemed annoyed it was my first time, and did a poor job of explaining the combos. They also didnt take the time to explain what a menu item was when i pointed at it and asked. "chicken" yes, i can tell it is chicken, but what does it taste like? :( The food cost quite a bit, and was mostly rice. $20 for 3 item combo, but 2 of the items were almost inedible. One was the ground beef "stew" ? which was horrendously greasy and lacking flavor on its own, and not much better with the rice, but at least that made it edible. The chicken skewer was good, but it was cold. The vinegar sauce a customer in line recommended was great. I got some kind of marinated veggie with onions that smelled as bad as it tasted, but I think that one is on me. I didnt know what I was getting myself into with that. I would say this place is to be avoided at all costs. Complete waste of money. There are way better places across the street, and right next door."
