She has worked wonders on my hair, explaining every step of the way each time I visit her, and very open and honest about what expectations I can have during this whole journey. "Unfortunately, I had a very negative experience at Cosmic Blonde and it cost me $170. I wanted to dramatically lighten my black hair (with copper highlights) before my wedding and contacted a few stylists with photos of my current hair and my dream hair (ashy blonde balayage). Marcie came recommended by a friend and her IG hair photos were impressive. She stated she could do it with at least two sessions and assured me it wouldn't look unfinished after our first session (aka for the wedding) so I booked an appointment one week before the big day. Her studio is beautiful and tastefully decorated- I congratulated her when she shared she'd been open for only 1 month. I tried to make small talk but it became obvious she was having a stressful day. She shared that she had a million personal things going on that day and no other staff in the salon. The result was my appointment feeling very rushed. She shut down conversation and told me she needed to focus on bleaching/foiling my hair in under a hour in order to ensure she had time to wash and dry. I tried asking some questions on the process of lightening hair, but twice she told me that it's hard for her to explain to people who haven't studied hair and that she wishes clients would just trust her. After that, I didn't talk much. When her next client showed up though, she was super chatty with him and worked quickly on finishing my hair. My hair came out with no color changes- As Marcie admitted, it just looked like I had more highlights in the back. I was devastated and asked if she would be able to lighten it at all next session. Marcie then told me that she has no way of knowing because "I can do my thing but it's up to your hair" and that getting my hair that light was "unrealistic". I have never NOT tipped and I felt uncomfortable- Even though I wasn't at all happy with the outcome, I still tipped. Feeling rushed and unsure of what to say, I left. After sending pictures of before and after to several friends, including 2 hair stylists, they highly recommended I reach out to Marcie with my feedback and request a refund. As one of them put it, she didn't even realize they were before and after photos, and thought they were both before photos in different lighting. I've never requested a refund before and sent Marcie a message explaining my disappointment and my frustration that she said she could do it but then said it was unrealistic after the appointment. Since she spent her time and product on my hair though, I asked to negotiate a level of (not full) refund. Marcie responded that she does not do refunds and clarified that she doesn't think it's unrealistic but it is very hard to achieve and "while sometimes it is possible it is not always in every case." Well, two days before my wedding I booked an appointment at a Texas salon (near the venue) and they did what Marcie couldn't. They provided a free consultation, said they couldn't even tell my hair was recently bleached because it was so healthy, stated it was 100% possible to lighten my hair and estimated 2 sessions to get to the ashy color in my dream hair photo. The stylist took her time, was friendly, and answered all my questions happily. She didn't compromise my hair for the sake of time- In fact, she cut another client's hair while I sat in foils and let the bleach do its job. My hair came out beautiful and SO LIGHT! Some streaks already turned out ashy and the stylist was confident she could get total ashy next session. Also, service was excellent- the staff was friendly, the owner introduced herself to me and every other client, and they offered us beverages throughout our time there. It was a completely different experience from Cosmic Blonde and I now have dream hair for my big day!"
