"For close to 30 years, Dr. Gorham (and later, his son) has been my dentist. During most of that time, they had a front-desk/business person named Liz who was just amazing - she knew me, remembered me, and when I went freelance full-time back in 2010, we would review which insurance options would work. (I always confirm providers on Marketplace, but then follow up with the providers themselves to double-check.) Sadly, Liz passed away a few years ago and the place has gone downhill. Each year for the past four, I have called to confirm they would take the dental insurance option I wanted to select; each year they have told me yes, they did accept the option I was looking at; each year, I would show up for next my appointment and would be told they didn't. Today, I was told they don't accept any insurance from Marketplace (which means, if you're self-employed/freelance/have a life-altering event, they won't accept your insurance). In years past, I would bite the bullet and pay out of pocket because I am loyal to providers. Today, no more. Gorham and Ammarell Dentistry, you have lost a patient who has been loyal for close to 30 years. It's worth mentioning that I pay for top of the line insurance, because while most dental policies cover the same, the depth of coverage can vary. I will miss the hygienist who has been so fabulous, but I can no longer look past the incompetence of their front desk and business staff. Stop telling people that you accept their insurance, and then deny it when they arrive for their appointment."
