Pop's Tamales

"I’ve been coming to Pops for a while now..& I can say lately it’s has not been a great experience for me.. granted he’s older and it maybe time to pass the torch.. but when I get tamales that I have to throw in the trash because they’re too horrible to eat. Something is wrong I was convinced that on this particular day the ladies that were there slipped up so not even a week later I decided to go get my dad some and they still weren’t good and Pops was there.. They were just bland and the taste wasn’t there yet again.I expressed my concerns to him but I felt a little attitude from him ( granted he’s elderly so I overlooked it) but once again I’ve been patronizing for a while now. I truly hate to leave such a negative review but when you’re spending your money I feel like it’s my just do!"

"When it comes to tamales…Pop’s is the Topps. It’s carry out only, cash only. Crackers & hot sauce are a nickel a package. Pop’s reminds me of the old Maxwell Street Polish establishment in Chicago with their Polish sausage, except Pop’s isn’t open 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Pop’s Tamales will leave you with that same feeling of wanting more. Some say it’s a rough neighborhood but it’s the same as Maxwell Street, everyone has the same respect for an establishment that does the best at what they do & people truly enjoy and respect that. If you are a tamale fan, I highly recommend you put this establishment on your bucket list & get to meet the man."

"We love Pop’s Tamales!!! He has the best tamales. After all of these years his recipe has not changed and the tamales are still good!! There are two choices mild and hot!! We get both! Pop is so sweet and is always nice when we get tamales! Thank you Pop! Cash Only!!!!!"

"I have been looking for a good spot for tamales comparable to those from the Mississippi Delta. Someone recommended Pop's, and the tamales are the best I have found this side of the MS. border. This is a take out only place. I chose hot (vs. mild) and they were great."

"Pops is serving Fresh Hot food that you don't have to wait 20 mins to get. They have great mild tamales. I plan on trying the hot ones next time around. These were the first ones I've had that wasn't overly salty, but seasoned to perfection. The parking can be a bit challenging."
