Reviews of Captain Daniel Wright Woods Forest Preserve
"This is one of our favorite hikes that is close enough to the city but far enough to help you get detached from the stressors of life. Occasionally, the trails can be crowded but it doesn’t take long to find your self some solace. Lots of wildlife if you’re willing to pay attention. Occasionally, we hear a singer (who sounds like an opera singer honestly) singing around the small pond near the parking area. It’s really special!"
"It s nice place to walk and enjoy the nature, it wasn’t easy to reach the entrance as google maps guides me to wrong way through Elm street. The best way to reach the entrance through St Mary street. It s free admission, lots of parking lots. It has playground for kids and many benches to relax and enjoy the scenery."
"What a beautiful place to be. This park has gorgeous, well maintained trails, a park, a fishing pond, and it connects to the DRT. I imagine it can be a popular park on the weekends, but luckily this is just one of several amazing preserves that Lake County has to offer."
"I try to make it out here at least once a month from the city. It's definitely a bit of a hike, but worth it. There are a handful of walking trails and a small playground for little ones. I noticed over the winter that they had cut down *a lot* of mature trees and when I went back this week, they had a bunch of them piled up by the parking lot. There's also a lot of new construction homes being built directly around this forest preserve, so I do worry about its future."
"Beautiful, well maintained park that’s great for all sorts of trail recreation, from hiking to biking to cross country skiing. The trails are all very well marked, and the preserve is STUNNING in autumn, but I go all year round. In winter, you can snowshoe or cross country ski here (plenty of classic skiers so there’s usually some sort of track). It connects to trails all the way up to Wisconsin. Parking could be limited on weekends on nice days."
