"We we're at the softball field, so we didn't utilize all of the facilities that the park has to offer. The ball fields were pretty decent, and seating was in the shade which is a luxury we do not see often enough in small towns. The pool was full of kids, and lots of laughter. The park proper is very spacious and had plenty of play ground equipment."
"Nice, clean park with a lot of play options available for children of all ages. It has a pool, and a dog park. The restrooms are open and that is a major plus for us since we have a little one."
"Great park. Pools nice but really needs some shade. Would be nice if the front gate wasn't closed several days in a row after rain when you are welcome to walk in. It's a big park and I have Littles so it's a hassle."
"The Herrin park is very nice. It's always very well maintained. I frequent the dog park. It is a nice fenced in park where the dogs can run. They provide bags for cleaning up after the dogs. The only downfall is the dog park doesn't have water nearby."
"Terrible!! I was there the other night ( a woman with 2 kids) for some playground time and a walk , and when I was getting ready to leave, I realized they had LOCKED me in the park ( although they could clearly see my vehicle parked between the pond and the blue playground- it was visible from the gate!). To make matters worse, as I was sitting AT the gate, looking around for ( nonexistent!) signs or notices that were supposed to have informed me of the rules and why the gate was locked by 6:30 , a guy walks out of the park office building and just demonstratively drives OFF. There WERE NO visible signs. I walked over and carefully re-read the rules and regulations - NO mention that the park closes at a certain time! WHAT THE HECK?! How can they DO THAT?? I don't live in Herrin, but a nearby small town. We come here a few times a year for an occassional treat. NO MORE. I'm too paranoid now to set my foot in that place. Not worth it to me. It caused me a lot of stress. I came home so upset and shaken. My husband couldn't believe it either.. You receive tax monies to provide a service to the community. HOW HARD IS IT to put up a simple sign if you want people OUT of the park by a certain time each day?! It would have been nice to be informed of the park hours as I drove IN two hours earlier. Don't you want people of the community to come and enjoy this beautiful public property? Why not give your patrons the simple courtesy of notifying them ( via visible signs !) of the times of when the park opens and closes and on what days of the week?? Very simple, and something that would've saved people a lot of headache.. the police department says that apparently, it happens quite a bit. I'm sorry, but this is RIDICULOUS! Awful, awful, awful."
