"while I was driving in Elmhurst I spotted a pigeon on the road that appeared to be stuck. there were lots of cars driving over it and I quickly realize it would probably be hit soon if it didn’t get out do the road. I pulled over and managed to get onto the road and pick him up and run over to a sidewalk. next thing I knew I’m sitting in my car with a pigeon wrapped up in my jacket and no clue what to do. i called the wildlife center that was closest me and they referred me to Country Pet Retreat saying saying that she’d be able to help me. I gave her a call and before I even asked a direct question, she told me to bring it over. I drove the 40 minutes to this place and she quickly came out and took my little pigeon friend and said that she’d be able to help him. i think it’s really cool that they’re willing to help birds that other wildlife centers would not take in. I hope my little pigeon friend is doing well, and I’m thankful that a place like this exist!"
"TL;DR This place was one of the closest and few places willing to take in a baby sparrow I had found. I didn’t get to see much as far as care, but I’m satisfied and the property looked well cared for by an individual that seems to be devoted to nature all around. I was actually recommended to this place while calling around for a wildlife rescue that would take in a baby sparrow I had found. The lady who answered the phone was a bit curt and direct, but I told me I was welcome to come by at anytime because they run the business from their home. I could hear barking and rushed movement in the background so I assumed she was in the middle of some animal-related chaos In short: the property is secluded but homey. A very cozy style that lends itself the forestry around it. There’s even signs stating that a portion of the property is officially (and legally, I assume) dedicated to preservation. I digress. The front door wasn’t clearly marked so myself and someone boarding their dog weren’t sure where to go initially. Within a minute or two, someone was at one of the doors near that office door. A lady (I assume to be the same one from the phone) poked her head out and inquired if I had called about a bird. I just confirmed and she quickly plucked the little thing out of the box. A quick thank you. Like I said, curt and direct. It didn’t feel rude or anything though. Right afterwards, she just addressed the person behind me so I walked off. There was a few dogs barking behind a fence but they looked cared for. Saw that they had pigeons in a cage nearby too. That’s all. This probably doesn’t count as “short” anymore."
"Twice in one week I called Sue- I got her information from the local wildlife center when I called them about possibly helping some sparrows with a fallen nest- the wildlife center would not take them. I was able to successfully help the sparrows by making a makeshift nest and I could identify the parents continuing to care for them. Later in the week, I called Sue about 5 free baby chickens my dad came across- they were less than a week old. Both times Sue answered immediately, and no questions asked- she said bring them. Upon bringing the chicks in, mind you it was after 6pm on a Friday, she provided great information about the chicks, but also took them in. There aren't enough words to praise you Sue!!! I appreciate your knowledge, and sincere willingness to help! Thank you so much for all you do!"
"I took a baby sparrow there and she was so nice to care for him. No one else seemed to want to help. What a great person she is and the place is awesome looking. And she was grooming a dog and the dog looked so relaxed. I live an hour away but it was worth the drive."
