"Really nice FBO. Has the right amenities."
"Skybound Aviation was the third flight school which I attended to obtain my Sport Pilot certificate. My first school was Part 141 and proved to be a very negative experience. My second school changed ownership and subsequently did not support the Sport Pilot program. I then found Skybound. I live in Eastern TN and could not find a reasonably close Sport Pilot school. I looked at programs all over the U.S. and decided to try Skybound because it was just under 7 hours away and that they had two of the same true S-LSAs. I had read reviews that some schools would operate with one aircraft which provided problems for scheduling when one went down for maintenance. Over a two-month period, I made three trips to Cape Girardeau. I was immediately impressed by the orderly conduct of Skybound Aviation's training. A path to the Sport Pilot checkride was very obvious and all required wickets were made perfectly clear. I realized that my second flight school (while training me in the various required maneuvers and knowledge) had not been documenting them appropriately in my log-book. Alex, my instructor at Skybound showed me his checklist for ensuring that all requirements for the checkride were met. In very efficient fashion, we completed and documented the required training. Training here was an absolute pleasure. Alex was demanding but was so pleasant that I never felt "beat up" after a flight. I do not think that you will find a better group of great people to teach you! Skybound Aviation is based at Cape Girardeau regional airport (KCGI). This airport tower controlled. I would tell anyone who fears the radio communication with the tower to not fear. The tower at KCGI is very good. Skybound also gives you a packet of training materials which has a basic sheet of what to say. I went from thinking that I would only fly at uncontrolled airports to having no dread of those towered. I am also so impressed by the attention given to me. I felt that the staff at Skybound Aviation had made me a priority. Alex knew me and understood what my individual strengths and weakness were. He also was very cognizant of what particular training we had done. My first school by comparison had paired me with an instructor who was either not interested in teaching or simply so overloaded that he could not recall what we had done on a previous lesson (even if it were on the previous day) without reviewing his iPAD. Skybound Aviation also places an entire team behind you. I don’t know that it is very common that you will find a school which has an on-staff repairman and an examiner. Skybound Aviation also is a parts distributor for their aircraft. I am sure that these factors contributed to the fact that I never encountered a day in my training on which an aircraft was not available for my training. The fact that Skybound Aviation has a on-site examiner is invaluable. To coordinate the availability of an off day from work, a suitable aircraft, acceptable weather and an available examiner (qualified for Sport Pilot examinations) is very hard. Skybound Aviation made this coordination infinitely simpler. I am so grateful for the staff’s patience and hard work supporting my checkride during the months when weather can be very difficult. I did not mention the value of the training at Skybound Aviation. They offer discounts for purchasing block time. I found that their rates were very competitive as is. I paid more at a previous school to fly an old Cessna 150. Skybound has you training in a new glass paneled Remos GX (which as I alluded to is in excellent repair). My only regret is that I did not either initially start at Skybound Aviation or immediately transition to this school after my first negative experience at the Part 141 program. This is a truly professional program that I highly recommend!"
