Staunton Special Education, located at 701 North Deneen Street in Staunton, Illinois, is a school that is part of the South Macoupin Association for Special Education (SMASE). Our mission is to help students with special needs reach their full potential in the least restrictive environment. We serve the districts of Mt. Olive #5, Staunton #6, and Gillespie #7.

At SMASE, we are committed to providing high-quality education and services to our students and their parents. We offer a variety of services tailored to each student's individual needs. Our member districts are located in a rural setting, yet close to major cities such as St. Louis, Springfield, and Edwardsville, giving our students the best of both worlds.

SMASE offers a range of supports and services for students, including resource and speech services provided at each school district. We also have thirteen classrooms for students who require more individualized attention than what the traditional resource setting can offer. These classrooms are located in Gillespie, Mount Olive, and Staunton school districts, serving students from all member districts.

Our dedicated team includes Director Alison Storm, Supervisors Julie Presswood and Dawn Biersborn, and Administrative Assistant Cheryl Johnson. We are here to support our students and help them thrive academically and socially.
