"CSX Transportation Company Rail Operations Serve Olney, Illinois via Their former B&O/O&M St Louis Line. This Route, although Service is Limited to Flora Eastward currently, is still Serving several Important Industrial and Agricultural Customers. Once it linked St Louis with the Port of Baltimore, Maryland and was a part the Shortest and Fastest Route between not only those two Points, but by Extension over the Southern Pacific, Cotton Belt, Frisco, MKT, and Missouri Pacific most of the Continental North America from South of San Francisco to the West Coast of Mexico. No one could have foreseen just how vital the B&O St Louis Line might have been. First, the Invention of Double-Stack Container Cars pioneered by the Santa Fe would grow into the towering Double-Stack Railcars that are now so common... ... and that, combined with a Focus on Low Speed Priority Coal resulted in the decision to Dismantle the Link across Southern Ohio. I am Certain that if CSX could have Foreseen 2021 clearly back in 1980 that the old B&O St Louis Line might have been both re-laid with Heavier Rail and the Tunnels Enlarged so they could have met the Challenges of a more Competitive Conrail... But, not even Hays Watkins could have Predicted the Challenges the Management and Employees of CSX now must face to Live Up to the Slogan... "How Tomorrow Moves" Still, CSX must do whatever it takes to Carry that Torch... ... and on Christmas Day 2021, I find myself indeed Grateful for their Managers and Dedicated Crews for Their Service. "The most frustrating thing about living in or traveling through Seneca is CSX who *LOVES* to block the main entrance in and out of town during morning and afternoon rush hour at 10 to 30 minute intervals multiple times. If you live on the north side of the tracks, pray you never need a fire truck or ambulance during one of their many back and forth sessions. Calling their toll free number does no good either. CSX simply doesn't care (and the guys may have walked to BP for coffee, donuts, and cigarettes)."
