Dr. Janet Scheel

Dr. Janet Scheel is a pediatric cardiologist located at 148 Richardson Crossing, Arnold, Missouri, United States. Dr. Scheel specializes in pediatric heart transplantation, heart failure, fetal echocardiography, and heart disease in children. She was influenced to choose her specialty during her residency at Johns Hopkins, where she gained experience in the cardiac catheterization lab and fell in love with pediatric heart transplantation. Dr. Scheel was the medical director of a heart failure/transplant program at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. before moving to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. One of the biggest challenges she faces as a pediatric transplant cardiologist is ensuring the long-term success of heart transplants. Dr. Scheel finds the immune system aspect of transplant medicine to be the most interesting and challenging. She is excited about the advancements in mechanical circulatory support, such as left ventricular assisted devices, which are changing pediatric heart failure and transplant. Dr. Scheel is involved in a clinical trial for a smaller continuous flow device for pediatric patients. She finds joy in seeing her young patients thrive after receiving transplanted hearts and is grateful for the gift of life that donor families provide during difficult times.
