The Mayor's office and City Council listen and are responsive, and city services are excellent. St. Charles boasts blue-ribbon schools and active local business and arts groups. Communities are what you make them, and St. Charles has a long tradition of public service organizations to support neighbors in need, from Lazarus House to its Housing Commission, dedicated to preserving affordable housing stock."

"I had a horrible experience with 5th ward Alderman Maureen Lewis. I only work in St. Charles, I don't live here, so I won't get to vote her out unfortunately. She calls my place of business about plowing the public side walks today, doesn't introduce herself, just says "I bet you know why I'm calling" when I answered the phone, and proceeds to tell me how we are being "bad neighbors" by not shoveling/plowing city owned sidewalks and how the city has a policy of being "good neighbors," which isn't in writing anywhere - I asked, that means we have to shovel their side walks. I let her know that our snowblower had broken down & we'd sent the maintenance staff home for the day, but we'd be happy to take care of it once it was fixed. That wasn't good enough apparently. She called my business and staff "bad neighbors" several more times and didn't care at all that this is heavy, wet, heart attack snow. She wanted that side walk shoveled come hell or high water. I finally had to tell her I wasn't going to risk the health/safety of my staff to hand shovel the snow today. She told me how I was a "bad neighbor" again and ignored every question I asked. Then she contacts my corporate office and says I was rude. Really? She doesn't seem to care about the people who live in her ward much. But the snow will be shoveled! Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in the city if that's how they treat people."

"Think twice about moving to St. Charles. My family bought a house and did some extensive remodeling and for some reason still not known to us the neighbor to the north of us would leave yard signs in the yard facing our house. When i say yard signs i mean signs with profanity. Made several police reports and went to the mayor/city council for help in which there was known. Perhaps if this current administration is voted out it may help but for now be careful. Look at photos and you will understand what lack of leadership looks like."
