"I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this review but after letting it settle in for a few weeks, I feel it is necessary. Dr. Shear started our couples therapy session off by telling me, "If you notice that I'm being partial towards your husband, call me out on it." First of all, aren't you supposed to be trained in order to not be biased? Isn't that a crucial key in couples therapy? Throughout the session he did show signs of being biased, even going so far as to gaslight me when I brought up jealousy/insecurity issues. He said things like, "Well have you considered this is just is personality?" and "Once you work on your jealousy issues, I think things will be a lot easier for you." I did not appreciate the patronizing comments either. For example, interrupting me when I'm explaining why I'm upset to say, "Watch your language, young lady!" and proceed to laugh while I am holding back tears. Also, and this is not to blame Dr. Shear, but my husband proceeded to bring another woman into our home from the clubs about 3 days after our therapy session, so clearly "working on my jealousy" wouldn't have worked anyway. Clearly my concerns were valid, and they were brushed off by both my soon-to-be-ex-husband AND our therapist. To top it all off, Dr. Shear was smoking a marijuana pen the entire session. All in all, a very unprofessional and inept "therapist." If I could give 0 stars, I would. I will also be seeking out action to file an official report to the IDPH."
"How Dr. Michael S. Shear of Resolutions Unlimited Worsened My Mental Health Through His Misplaced Anger, Repeated Collection Threats, and Abysmal Customer Service The following review is based solely on my own experience. ***** Mid-2020 After googling “Buddhist therapists near me,” only one name came up—michael’s. As someone who has found many helpful mental health techniques through Buddhist practice and teachings, I was excited to find a therapist who would be working from a similar philosophical framework. But upon seeing his hourly rate ($175), I knew I couldn’t afford him. Then, due to COVID, my insurance provider implemented a program where they would cover 100% of the payment for any telehealth medical services (physical or mental). I knew this was realistically the only chance I’d ever have to afford treatment from michael, and I was excited by the opportunity. I saw him multiple times over the course of two to three months in 2020. January 2022 My then fiancée wanted to start therapy, so I recommended Aimee Royer (who is utterly fantastic.) While my fiancée was in session, I stepped into the hall to take a phone call. As I’m literally mid sentence, michael—whom I hadn’t seen or spoken with in over a year—walks over and rudely interrupts. “What’s your name?” I reminded him. “You still have an unpaid bill.” Having no clue what he was talking about, I told him I didn’t and he walked off. I told his receptionist this was a mistake and I would not be paying this new $608.44 charge michael saw fit to throw at me mid-phone call. Apparently Resolutions Unlimited split my bill in half when submitting it to insurance in 2020, so one claim was rejected as a duplicate. The leftover bill from that rejected claim had “fallen through the cracks," which is supposedly why it took them over a year to notify me. The next four months were filled with stress and anxiety as my claim kepts getting rejected every time Resolutions Unlimited resubmitted it. Eventually, I received a mail notice from michael stating I had 30 days to start paying to avoid collections. The notice did not have the correct telehalth signifier of “2” in front of the billing codes (see attached image), which is my suspicion as to why the claim was repeatedly denied. I reached out to BCBS again, explained the situation, and—surprise, surprise—they fixed it, approving the claim. I called Resolutions Unlimited, and when I got ahold of michael, I try telling him I’m calling about the bill... but just like when I was in the hallway on the phone, he interrupts me, angrily spitting out “Yes, we’re going to pursue it [collections]! You had the [expletive] services, man!” I told him he must not have listened to my message about how my insurance had finalized everything and his money was on the way. I ended up having to email michael a screenshot of my conversation with the insurance agent to once again prove I wasn’t a liar trying to scam him out of his big-time therapist bucks. Thank Siddhartha that my insurance claim was finally approved so the injustice of michael’s bank account being a few hundred dollars lighter could be corrected. I have not received any sort of apology on behalf of michael or Resolutions Unlimited in regards to michael’s angry cursing, the incompetence that led to my claim being rejected again and again, or the months they spent hanging debt collectors over my head for a bill from 2020 that michael would have never even remembered had he not physically seen me that day I took my fiancée to Aimee. Dr. Michael S. Shear gave me an inordinate amount of anxiety and stress during an already horrible time in my life. But my mental health didn't matter, because in the end michael got the only thing he cared about—his precious $608.44 insurance check."

"My wife and I went to Mr. Shearing for marriage counseling. I was super nervous at first but within the first 5 minutes I felt at home with him and could talk to him about anything. He was polite, professional, gave us great advice and never at anytime did I feel like he judged me. I think he is a great counselor, awesome person and all around great guy. I would highly reccomend him to anyone. Thanks for all the help Mike. Sincerely Ken"
