"Prior to receiving my W-2, I went to an H&R block location to enquire about the refund advance. I was told once my W-2 was available to make a appointment at the on-base location and they could do the refund advance. At my appointment, I reminded my tax professional, John Alvarado, three separate times that I wanted the refund advance and he told me we would take care of that at the end. After he submitted my tax return, I again asked about the advance and he told me they couldn't do that on-base. He tried to recall my return so I could go to the off base location and refile, but it was too late. I ended up paying $350 to file a tax return that I could have filed for free with TurboTax (or online with H&R Block by myself). The only reason I went to a brick-and-mortar H&R Block was to receive the refund advance, which I was already pre-qualified for, and after informing John three times I ended up paying the fee to file in the office for essentially no reason."
