"Quite possibly the worst transaction, or lack of transaction, ever. We were in Galesburg via Amtrak on Saturday April 30th and needed a cab to go to the movie theater. Called American Ferrier eight times, I got a recording that services were slow due to driver shortage and then was transferred to a full voicemailbox where I could not leave a message. I also tried the other car service listed by Google but was told the number was busy. My 9th call to American Ferrier I finally got a very exasperated woman. The cab was there in about 10 minutes. The cab had another passenger in the front seat who was obviously sick with something that sounded like a really bad cold. The cab was dirty and smelled like cigarette smoke. We got to the theater, I tipped the guy $10 on top of the $11 fare and told him I would call the company after the movie. The thought was a good tip might be an incentive to actually answer the phone and show up. Nope. I called 22 times and never got a person to answer. And, yes, the voicemailbox was still full and I could not leave a message. Uber could never find a driver that was available. Lyft doesn't service Galesburg. We tried to figure out the public bus system and schedule; we passed at least a dozen bus stop benches on our walk back to the station. We never saw a single bus. And, the Enterprise car rental place is closed on weekends. We left no stone unturned. We had to walk over an hour to get back to the part of town where the train station is. If this is Galesburg's idea of being tourist-fiendly, you have a lot to learn. It is great Amtrak stops in your quaint small city, it is great there are shops and restaurants close to the station. If the weather isn't great, if you are an older adult or person with disabilities, or just averse to walking everywhere, there have to be additional, readily available transportation services. Needless to say, we won't do that again."
