"I am disappointed in the lack of communication. About a month ago I applied with the $50 fee. The following day I heard from the owner regarding voice lessons I was seeking to prepare for an audition the following month. He ended the conversation saying, "Someone should be in touch next week..." No one contacted me therefore, the following week I called him and left a voicemail on his line - and still no response. I also sent him an email and no response. I therefore, took my business somewhere else because no one ever touched base with me again. What is very frustrating is that I was charged $50 a month later for nothing. I'm sure this is a wonderful place to learn, but I am disappointed in the lack of response. Is it because I am an adult?"
"I studied the violin at the Dallas School of Music many years ago (in the 90s to be exact). This is where I grew my love for music. My teacher was so kind and so helpful and inspired me tremendously. After taking a few years off, I took some lessons at the school again and picked up where I left off. I was surprised to see that they were still so many familiar faces around. I now play in fiddle in some local bands and teach private lessons; I model my lessons around the way that I was taught at the Dallas School of Music. I particularly enjoyed the variety of opportunities to learn through recitals and master classes, etc. Definitely recommend the Dallas School of Music!"
"I am coming up on my third month of piano lessons. I had some lessons as a kid and have been tinkering through the years and probably picked up some pretty bad habits. I had some bad luck with other teachers who heard me play and gave me repertoire that was too advanced for me, even though I indicated I wanted to start at the beginning and really learn technique and music theory properly. I told Dr. Lawrence I wanted a teacher who would start with me at the beginning, and he assured me he would find a good fit. He did! I love my lessons with Susan and I feel like I am progressing well and fixing a lot of issues I've had for a while. We focus on proper technique, proper music theory and I feel like I am actually making progress rather than brute forcing harder pieces and reinforcing bad habits. Susan is very patient and helpful in her advice. I still have many years to go to reach where I want, but I know I'll get there with the help and support of DSM!"
"My daughter has been taking voice DSM for the last year and half. Her instructor, Hannah, has been incredible! She is so great. The facility is wonderful and so is their digital presence, but the administration is terrible. Dealing with the staff on scheduling, registration, etc is just a nightmare. After attending the school, sometimes twice a week, we attempted to return this fall and our spot was taken. No email, no call and we were invited to join a wait list. So, if you think this school acknowledges student loyalty - think again."
"The lessons I did have were fantastic. My instructor was patient and incredibly helpful, and I enjoyed going each week. Unfortunately, the sudden passing of my instructor created a difficult circumstance, and my interactions at that point soured quickly. The school asked for patience while they sorted out the situation, which I happily granted them. By the time they figured out what their plan was, there was only 3 weeks left in the semester, and I had already prepaid for 9 remaining lessons. They wanted me to roll the lessons into the next year, which for me, as the husband of a travel nurse leaving in January, was not possible. They then offered online lessons, saying they were just as good, a statement that I strongly disagree with. Finally, faced with no other options, they wanted to cram all of the remaining lessons into the last 3 weeks of December. Repeated attempts for a refund of my remaining lessons were denied. I would never question the quality of the instructors and instruction here, but will only give them 1 star for their greed and inflexibility in the face of tragic circumstances."
