"My father had liver cancer surgery Nov 2019. The doctor found a small spot and said the best option was to cut it out. Following the surgery the doctor said all went extremely well but he would need to stay in hospital for a week. It took 3 hours following surgery to find him a bed. When the transportation found him a bed the students on duty attempted to move him into the bed but the mattress came with him and became stuck. He screamed in utter pain. I’ve never seen my dad in such pain at that very moment. We were told the next apt to see Dr. Curley would be in February with him. The next day his lungs were filled with fluid which we were told was very common. After leaving he had to return because one lung was filling up with fluid and needed to be drained. This kept occurring. By Jan. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks with a catheter to urinate. They wanted to do a TIP procedure to reduce the stress on his Liver causing the pressure to build up. Dr. Curley said he was unaware my dad was even in the hospital because of all this and agreed we may want to move him to a new hospital. The case worker could not sign off to have EMS to send him because it’s considered dumping a patient. She told me it was too dangerous to move him and we had to sign a waiver for release. Thank god, my 75 year old mother drove 4 hours to Houston Methodist. The ER doctor was shocked he even had a catheter and wanted it removed. All 3 Liver specialist said they would never had cut out the tumor but used other tactics such as chemo on it. Saying it was too dangerous because of this very reason. Then Mother Francis told Methodist docs they were never going to do tip procedure on him. They told us they were planning too. We were just told the fluid is not coming from liver but from thoracic duct. Which was either caused by the surgeon hitting the thoracic duct, when they messed up and shifted him indirectly in bed and ripping it or by the added pressure on the liver when removing the tumor. Now he is having to have food put directly into a catheter called a PICC line. Could be up to one month or longer. He had lost 45 lbs and looks malnourished. Always get a second opinion and go to a much bigger hospital which actually has a number of specialist in each field. Dr. Curley was a nice man who did a good job explaining specific questions to us. I’m just so upset we didn’t get more opinions and now my dad is on a feeding tube and it’s not looking good at all."
"I wanted to send a thank you for what you and your staff has done for my mother. She had liver surgery back in Jan. 2015. She incountered a few major problems while in the hospital, but came through with your help and lots of prayers. I am so very proud of you and your knowledge and caring for her while she was in your care. You are a remarkable man and my family sends their deepest thanks. I hope you and your family have a blessed July 4th holiday. Thank you again and God Bless!"
"Thank you so much for allowing me to observe you this past week. I learned so much from you about the medical profession, and I really appreciate the diversity of experiences I got, from the OR to clinic research. I am so grateful for your willingness to accommodate me and to expose me to as much of your day-to-day life as possible. I also want to mention some things I learned from you which I hope to apply to not only being a doctor but also to my life. Everyday, I becasme more impressed with you. You walked around the hospital and treated others with such lack of arrogance. You were humble and obliging to everyone you interacted with - people you passed in the halls, your staff, your patients, and me. I especially appreciated your easy going, helpful nature. I know you do so much in a day and that your schedule is so busy, but nonetheless, you answered all my questions patiently and thoroughly, and you made sure I was always well taken care of. In fact, as each day passed and I really understood how much import and prestige you hold in that office. I was more amazed and gratified at the time you took for me. I was also so impressed by your treatment of your patients and staff. From a medical standpoint, yes, you treated your patients very well. But what really awed me was your concern for them. You treated them with respect and honesty. You were so obviously there for them, and it was plain that they took immense comfort from you. You were never in too much of a hurry to ask them personal questions and about their families or their lives to show that you cared. Your treatment of your staff also impressed me. You respect and trust every member, and your office runs so fluidly because of your example. At the end of each day I spent with you, I left astounded by your kindness and humility not to mention your incredible skill and breadth of knowledge. You have set an example for me of the kind of doctor I hope to be one day - thank you for that."
"I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your time and concern regarding my husband. You took your time and energy to talk with me and receive and review his records. I can not imagine how busy you are. However your found the time to encourage us and give us hope. Unfortunately we were not able to make it to Texas. However we enjoyed each day together with our children and that is such a gift. I wish you only the best both personally and professionally."
"A thank you note seems so small compared to the amount of gratitude we have for you. Please accept a heart felt thank you for your care, compassion, and genuine concern for our mother. Twenty-one years is a long time and we are grateful you allowed and encouraged her to fight until the bitter end. Many doctors would have given up on her life but you didn't. And we cannot thank you enough for every last second we will agree when we say she was a very special lady. She adored you Dr. Curley. Thank you also for the extra attention you paid fer after the passing of him."
